Europe's monarchs and the entire civilized world turned an envious, incredulous eye to Versailles, with its superb gardens, handsome château, and the never-before-seen ostentation flourishing in the court of the Sun King, Louis the Fourteenth.

France : : the Journeys of the sun King submitted by yufamily on June 21, 2022, 4:31pm Don't know why AADL has this old series. There's no caption and the picture quality is poor.
Actually a Biography submitted by Meginator on August 20, 2022, 6:13pm In seeming defiance of its title, this short documentary is more biographically than geographically focused, although it does bounce around between a few locations in and near Paris while recalling events from the life of Louis XIV of France. Although it (mercifully) proceeds more or less chronologically, the film is almost hilariously unfocused, bouncing between subjects with little discernible rhyme or reason and seemingly unable to settle on a narrative through-line or recurring theme aside from “Louis XIV did things”. The scenery can be stunning and some of the informational bits are quite amusing, but this is more a series of anecdotes than a single connected story. Viewers who know little about Louis XIV will learn a lot but will also find themselves lost during the tangents, and viewers who are already familiar with the subject are unlikely to learn much more. Falling somewhat toward the former, I found this more amusing than frustrating, its flaws humorous and baffling rather than enraging.
