I loved Turning Red submitted by rea2mill on June 19, 2022, 8:43pm I really like the new direction story telling is taking at Disney and Pixar, where the hero grapples with a problem that isn’t some crazy monster but rather every day life problems like puberty, or inter generational conflict, or insecurities about being accepted. Stuff that’s actually relatable to the viewers. And the movie Turning Red accomplishes addressing these struggles in a way that doesn’t feel one sided. You feel for both the teen and her overbearing mom. They didn’t create a bad guy but rather show that conflict isn’t always one sided. By the end of the movie you even realize the school bully is just someone dealing with insecurities of their own. And everyone is ultimately just a human struggling with change; changes in their body and attitude, changes in perspective from one generation to another. It accomplishes all that while being fun and hilarious and hamming up the complete awkwardness of Mae dealing with her magical puberty dilemma. Really fun movie. I think we’ll hold off on showing it to our kids. It’s not really geared for little kids.

So Fun submitted by pjaynes on July 26, 2023, 9:57am Turning Red does a great job capturing the joys and insecurities of being a young teenage girl. It also does a great job capturing a loving, but overbearing and difficult relationship between mother and daughter. And this is Disney/Pixar, so of course there is the added bonus of magic, cute animals, and catchy songs (4*Town 4 ever!). This is a perfect film for family movie nights or sleepovers!
