"Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother's dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called "calorie restriction," eating little and weighing herself five times a day. She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, "Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn't tint hers?" She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I'm Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail--just as she chronicles what happens when the dream finally comes true. Cast in a new Nickelodeon series called iCarly, she is thrust into fame. Though Mom is ecstatic, emailing fan club moderators and getting on a first-name basis with the paparazzi ("Hi Gale!"), Jennette is riddled with anxiety, shame, and self-loathing, which manifest into eating disorders, addiction, and a series of unhealthy relationships. These issues only get worse when, soon after taking the lead in the iCarly spinoff Sam & Cat alongside Ariana Grande, her mother dies of cancer. Finally, after discovering therapy and quitting acting, Jennette embarks on recovery and decides for the first time in her life what she really wants." -- Amazon.com.

So good submitted by courtneyhooper on August 12, 2022, 11:56pm Dishy and important at the same time

Another Celeb Memoir submitted by bookasaurusray on August 24, 2022, 10:41am For a B-list celebrity memoir, not super relatable to the every day "average" person. But I loved the gossip, her dry sense of humor, and of course, her honesty. She definitely wasn't someone I was super familiar with, nor do I intend to following her acting career post-reading this, but I will definitely checkout anything she writes in the future.

Lots of TWs with this one: Abuse, Addiction, Alcohol, Eating Disorders, Drug use, Grief, Cancer

Major TW for Eating Disorders submitted by ahlalejini on August 26, 2022, 9:55pm Well written and funny, but vast majority went into super detailed trauma with eating disorders and a lot less about Hollywood gossip.

incredible submitted by shanny1974 on June 9, 2023, 9:53am This book is hard to read at times, but it is an incredible book. She is very candid about her life and this book should be read.

WOW! submitted by Rija on June 16, 2023, 3:22pm This book is well written. Each chapter is short but action pact. The transitions incredible. If you read the book there will be a lot of gasping moments for sure.

Definite TW, good read submitted by mgabbieb on June 25, 2023, 9:51am TW for physical and emotional abuse, eating disorders

But a very well written and candid book. I’m glad that it focused more on recounting the struggles of being a child actor than just relaying Hollywood gossip. The author talks about her passion for writing vs. acting and I can see it come through in this work

I was turned off by the title, but so glad I read it submitted by leah karr on June 29, 2023, 9:20am I hesitated for a while on this one. I was worried she was cruel, because of the title. But this book was good. The author had some crazy experiences, which I am thankful to never have lived through.
