Something New submitted by Meginator on June 14, 2023, 11:18am This album has a great blend of upbeat, dance-friendly genres that sits in marked contrast to the much more introspective and ponderous “Lemonade”. Beyoncé’s vocal performances drive much of the music forward with their raw power and ability to evoke emotion in a context where the vocals are not necessarily as prominent as the backing track, and the album feels as much like a nod to the past as a glimpse at the future in the way it synthesizes many different sounds. I found this to be surprising and exciting; it doesn’t change the landscape in the same way that her previous album did, but to expect that every time, even from a legend, is unfair and this album holds up its own weight quite well.
