Book conservators in fiction rule! submitted by mariekakaye on June 21, 2025, 4:49pm As a book conservator, I like reading any story that has one as the main character. This one was especially compelling because I also worked in the book conservation lab at the Met (in the early 2000s too)! So I found this very entertaining, especially the parts that discuss conservation treatment. The historic undercurrent exploring the challenges of gender identity added depth. I couldn’t seem to get very attached to the main character but genderqueer history intertwined with modern day struggles made it intriguing. If you’re a book nerd who likes a storyline that involves self discovery and history, this is a good one!
