"Knives Out meets Kim's Convenience in this captivating mystery by Jesse Q. Sutanto, bestselling author of Dial A for Aunties. Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady--ah, lady of a certain age--who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco's Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her college-aged son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing--a dead man in the middle of her tea shop. In his outstretched hand, a flash drive. Vera doesn't know what comes over her, but after calling the cops like any good citizen would, she sort of ... swipes the flash drive from the body and tucks it safely into the pocket of her apron. Why? Because Vera is sure she would do a better job than the police possibly could, because nobody sniffs out a wrongdoing quite like a suspicious Chinese mother with time on her hands. Vera knows the killer will be back for the flash drive; all she has to do is watch the increasing number of customers at her shop and figure out which one among them is the killer. What Vera does not expect is to form friendships with her customers and start to care for each and every one of them. As a protective mother hen, will she end up having to give one of her newfound chicks to the police?"-- Provided by publisher.

Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers submitted by nemiller on July 23, 2023, 6:55am I liked this book even better than Dial A for Aunties and it's sequel, Four Aunties and a Wedding. There was the same heart and humor, plus the plot was tighter and the characters more fleshed-out. A great summer read!

Delightful mystery submitted by vickik on June 15, 2024, 10:18am This is a charming, heartwarming mystery novel about Vera Wong, a widowed Chinese woman in her sixties who finds a dead body in her tea shop in San Francisco's Chinatown and decides she will do a better job than the police at solving the crime. She rounds up four suspects, and then makes friends with them, cooking them delicious Chinese meals. Which one of her four new friends is a murderer?

A funny, wholesome mystery submitted by tuttlium on July 6, 2024, 2:13pm Weird to call something a wholesome mystery, but it's true! A dead body in Vera Wong's tea shop prompts her to decide to solve it, befriend everyone who comes poking around, and change all their lives through friendship and excellent food. I really enjoyed this one.

5/5 submitted by kmp009 on July 9, 2024, 10:20am Yes there’s a murder, but the rest of the book is heartwarming and a cozy dive into what it means to create your own family after tragedy. Vera is the perfect spunky heroine.

Vera is the bomb submitted by mandevil on July 29, 2024, 12:31pm A little predictable but still charming.

A delight submitted by flemingj on July 31, 2024, 7:57am Not my usual read. It was nice to take a break with a such a delightful story.
