Michigan artist. Betsy O'Neill is an artist from Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her creative process comes from the natural desire to explore and learn from nature. As an artist she spends hours outside translating her response of awe into a love language of paint on canvas. Betsy prefers to paint en plein air (right on site) but she also takes her own photographs and paints in studio. Betsy’s work not only evokes strong memories of a favorite place but also a grounding connection to nature and opens a dialog with others about preservation of the beautiful places we share. I love birch trees, and I love this composition. submitted by lisa on June 14, 2023, 3:22pm They do seem to occur in rows on the edges of bodies of water like this. Do we plant them there that way, or does that just happen? Anyway, love the composition and the colors and the feel of this one. It's got a kind of ordinariness of view to it that sets a random out-in-nature beautiful-glimpse feel.

One small comment on its dimensions, though: so many library prints are really big. Often I don't have a large bit of wall available for rotating these out. I wish more library prints were smaller.

Abstract Strokes Made Definite At Distance submitted by Meginator on August 4, 2025, 10:27pm This is a lovely print that is more impressive to consider from close-up; the strokes are generally broad and abstract, yet they come together seamlessly to create the full image of a birch grove alongside the water. The different gradients of blue echo reality while providing an impressionist feels to the water, and the entire image has a certain serenity to it; you can almost hear the waves gently lapping against the bank. This painting effectively captures the spirit of the place it depicts, bringing a welcome bit of lakeside scenery and an associated sense of calm to the room.
