PSA submitted by sara on June 9, 2023, 11:14am The detector does not come with batteries. You have to provide your own AA batteries. Since you only get the tool for a week, make sure you have batteries before you check it out.

(It would be nice if could be checked out for 10 days or 2 weeks, so one could get a full 7 day average reading.) NOTE: It needs 3 AAA batteries, which are NOT included.

Great submitted by kyounge on July 9, 2023, 1:18pm Mine came with AAA batteries, popped them in an it worked great. Except it showed a pretty high result. Bummer!

Very useful tool submitted by DawnR on September 23, 2023, 10:38am The library must have taken into account the feedback because the detector I checked out included batteries and it's for 2 weeks. Overall, Washtenaw county is a high radon area so this tool is a real benefit to the community. I plan to purchase a radon test kit for $10 from the health department and compare those test results (which the department provides) to the results from the detector.

A life saver submitted by alihopki on November 24, 2023, 7:36pm I checked this out after I had a sketchy contractor seal the vents in my crawlspace. When they sealed up the vents, there was no where for the radon to go other than into my home. When I popped in the batteries supplied by the library with the detector , my levels came back at a whopping 23! This detector hopefully saved myself and my young son from lung cancer in the future. I immediately started venting my home and contacted a mitigation company. My levels are now at a normal 2, but who knows how long we would have gone without knowing what we were breathing. Washtenaw county has a high level of radon so worth checking this out or even buying one. You won’t be disappointed and could save your life

Great tool submitted by shosh.lenski on July 25, 2024, 5:59pm This was a great and useful tool for us to check out and make sure that our radon mitigation is still working as expected. There is such a long wait list that as soon as we returned it, we got back on the list. I hope we can do a check every 6 months or year or so when we get a turn with this!
