COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Believable submitted by pamhockey25 on August 13, 2024, 10:26am This book follows 14-year-old Jay as he navigates Middle School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He's in his final year and is struggling with the fact that his mother is in another state for 18 months to earn her master's degree. Jay is angry and feels like no one sees him as he really is, especially his father. Jay has been performing a magic act with him but wants to follow his own interests, so Jay is less than thrilled when his dad volunteers to perform with him at his middle school talent show.

Jay has a lot on his plate, and he really wants to choose his own way. Right now, he's pretty sure that doesn't mean performing a magic act with his dad in front of the entire school. Jay's struggles felt real—he's dealing with a lot. He wants to get out of performing so badly that he and his friends come up with a list of ways to avoid it. However, his friends do recommended that he talk to his dad about it.

I enjoyed this book. There were fun references to places in Ann Arbor that I enjoyed since I live here. I liked the characters and believable situations that Jay finds himself in. I enjoyed reading this book!
