such stuff as dreams are made on submitted by tarascon on June 19, 2025, 7:28pm This is funny stuff in the way that post-covid life is funny. Which is to say “haven’t we all become really really really strange monkeys?”
The poster above was correct in claiming that this is a sad movie but, if I might assume, not exactly in the sense they may have meant. The sadness in this movie is its existential angst, the current of alienation and dread we swim in, our inability to live… to exist fully. And let’s not ignore the soul crushing effects of fame—nor the bizarre desire for it (whether the internet or, as in this movie, the neural net). Readers of “No Exit” may find this familiar, all others may appreciate that we are trapped within Dr. Phil’s mindset run rampant.
BUT…
All of that and the manner in which it’s handled in this movie is also what makes it funny. Funny in the way that Paddy Chayefsky’s “Network” was funny. That—and this—is the absurdist horror we inhabit now.
Me? I’m moving outta here the minute I spot a hole in the asylum wall.
