A Guide to the Murals
submitted by Sara W on July 31, 2012, 9:49am
The Detroit Industry murals are incredible. They surround you, they tower over you, they are rife with detail and nuance and meaning. But I always feel that I'm missing something - even when the museum docent is explaining things to me or the audio tour is directing my attention to minute details.
This book not only gives background on Diego Rivera's method and experience in Detroit, it covers the planning and execution of the murals from top to bottom. There is a panel by panel breakdown with notes about each element. I read it on the way to the Detroit Institute of Arts and when I got there to see the murals, it was like seeing them for the first time. Highly recommended for art lovers and DIA lovers.
Murals submitted by avrogers1 on August 24, 2019, 10:12pm These murals can be seen at the DIA in Detroit and they are breathtaking. They are so larger they take up all of the walls in the room. The murals tower over you as you stand in the center of the room. You can turn in any direction and see something new. its really amazing. What a great resource this is. Some great background information.
