A Family Torn submitted by kathleen824 on August 2, 2013, 3:59pm A young man of 13 whose entire life changes when his mother is the victim of a brutal hate crime. For Joe it is a coming of age that could change the course of his life.

so-so submitted by amym on August 25, 2014, 9:09pm I was expecting this to be a good book. I've read other books by Louise Erdrich that I liked. However, this book left me cold. The premise is good, but I had a hard time getting through it because it just didn't hold my interest. I never felt invested in any of the characters and I didn't really care what happened to them. Kind of disappointing.

Depth of Character submitted by spinkelman on July 16, 2016, 7:56pm This story has such sadness yet warm beauty in the relationships and humor. I don't do well with the painful reads often, but this one tips the balance in the right direction. I've read most of her books and I'd put this one high up on the list.

Tribal Law submitted by teri on August 11, 2016, 8:38am A story that brings out the complications that occur when tribal law meets up with the American legal system. A thoughtful book that brings out some of the difficulties that Native Americans still carry with them. I enjoyed it.

High Marks submitted by kferguson on August 25, 2016, 9:31pm I give this high marks for excellent writing. More political than some of Erdrich's books. The message is powerful.

The round house submitted by KatyaS on July 13, 2019, 5:47am Powerful story of coming of age and tribal rules..
