Post-Divorce Life on a Farm submitted by sdunav on June 20, 2013, 11:48am Is it weird that I like reading post-divorce memoirs where women find themselves, often by going back to nature or farming? I think I have a pretty good marriage, and I don't actually want all the work a farm entails.

This one combines stories of life in n. Michigan (near Traverse Bay) with raising sons, a pig, chickens, and a garden. I liked it a lot, though I didn't always agree with all of Link's choices.

conversation submitted by unknown on September 1, 2013, 8:09am This memoir felt like I was having a conversation with a friend. This woman is determined to keep her family together and her head above water. Really liked the book

Proud Michigander submitted by Sunny29 on July 15, 2014, 10:20am Bootstrapper was a well written, true life account of a struggling mother in Northern Michigan. Link's struggles as a now single mother and farmer inspire the gritty Michigander in us all!

Yes, I laughed! submitted by phoebek on September 10, 2014, 11:44am A wonderful book! I have such a different life but faced at least a year of heart wrenching struggles similar to Mardi. I was able to meet Mardi at the Kerrytown Bookfest and the one question she asked me was, "Well, did you laugh?" Yes, I did laugh at moments when I read it. It's so important to not lose sight of your sense of humor even in the darkest times. I bought two copies of Bootstrapper for others whom I know it would strike a cord with in these times. Thanks, Mardi!

Bootstrapper submitted by obrien1988 on June 11, 2022, 4:56pm Really enjoyed this book., having grown up on a farm, I find it comical when city folks tr it out.

Poignant submitted by pamhockey25 on August 8, 2022, 4:16pm The writing is great, based on her actual experiences, and written with humor. Real people, real life.
