Amazing and insightful! submitted by eapearce on March 30, 2015, 4:39pm Wow! I LOVED this collection of beautiful, poignant, hilarious, maddening and relatable stories. Focusing mostly on women in various type of relationships, author Katherine Heiny describes emotions and situations so shockingly well that I found myself completely immersed in every single one of these stories. In one, Maya adores her wonderful boyfriend, but for some reason can't manage to end her affair with her boss even though she walks into work every morning determined to do so. In another, an unnamed woman throws a birthday party for her 8-year-old son, and readers experience first-person all the stress and absurdity of what such an event entails. In a third story, Sonia agrees to meet the wife of the man she has been having an affair with for a drink, and the two women experience a brief moment of connection before the wife brutally insults Sonia.

I really felt like Single, Carefree, Mellow, was like an eye into the mind's of women everywhere. My absolutely favorite thing about all these stories is that most did not have the "expected" ending, but instead tapered off beautifully, leaving me smiling and wondering.
