COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Terrible submitted by ishhewitt on July 14, 2016, 6:21pm I'm not sure there has been a trilogy of movies showcasing worse acting ever made. :(

Okay submitted by zmclaugh on August 1, 2018, 5:13pm There are good ideas here, but poor writing.

Good trilogy submitted by Xris on August 29, 2018, 10:27pm Not as good as the original trilogy, but It's good because it's Star Wars.

You know submitted by hduke on June 22, 2019, 11:41am Sometimes, you just have to relive the prequel trilogy in all of it's ridiculousness and awkwardness. Is it good? Not necessarily. Is it entertaining? Usually.

More Okay Than Not in Hindsight submitted by Meginator on August 11, 2021, 5:14pm These films certainly suffered from the vast weight of expectations, and even the most generous viewer would probably have to admit that they are, at best, a mixed bag. Hampered by utterly unrealistic dialogue and clumsy writing, whirling plots and subplots that rarely intersect, an over-reliance on CGI effects, unnecessary fan service, and (most crucially) a complete lack of editorial focus, these three movies are not by any means great cinema. Yet they do accomplish their primary purpose, offering a backstory for Anakin Skywalker and, more importantly, building on George Lucas’s excellently realized Star Wars universe. For all its sins, “The Phantom Menace” quintessentially feels like a Star Wars film, showing a glimpse of everyday life in the Republic era and culminating in an epic lightsaber battle that holds up against the best in the series. “Attack of the Clones” is drawn out and famously suffers from poor acting and “Revenge of the Sith” botches Anakin’s transformation by making it far too swift, but the action sequences are generally enjoyable and the worldbuilding is top-notch. The character arcs and Bush-era political overtones are heavy-handed, but the films aren’t as unwatchable as I feared they would be when revisiting them. Sure, it’s easy to spot all of their wasted potential, and they definitely suffer from a lack of restraint, but do have their moments and they do provide some historical context for the original Skywalker trilogy.
