COMMUNITY REVIEWS

Fairly close to Swedish original submitted by willow on August 11, 2016, 3:35pm This is a version from the UK and France, that is bilingual, of the Swedish and Danish Bron/Broen (The Bridge). There have been some changes to the characters and plot. The French female detective, Elise Wasserman, is depicted more as someone stiffened by tragedy than quite as socially impaired as the Swedish Saga Noren is in the original. Karl Roebuck is a bit more well-rounded than the Danish Martin Rohde, who seemed to have a one track mind for women.

The social problems highlighted on both programs are essentially the same (disinterest in the elderly, homeless, children factory workers, and other issues of social justice) and the basic plot is quite similar. There is a fair amount of swearing and intense emotion; I found the emotional aspects more poignant and even disturbing in this version than the original. It seemed a bit less gory/bloody than the original, even starting with the first body that is found.

The use of both French and English languages was handled fairly well, and the portions in French are subtitled. The cast and crew is both French and British, and it includes an ethnically diverse cast, including Angel Coulby (who is multi-ethnic) as Karl Roebuck's wife.

Should you watch it if you watched the original? Maybe, if you don't mind watching something so similar all over again.
