Errol's best friend and teddy, Thomas, is sad because he wishes he were a girl, not a boy teddy, but what only matters to both of them is that they are friends.

Sweet friendship submitted by Melissa Calabrese on August 27, 2018, 11:30pm This book promotes an easygoing spirit of openness and persistent friendship.
Identity submitted by Meginator on August 21, 2021, 8:46am This picture book uses a teddy bear to illustrate the concept of gender identity, as Tilly the teddy musters up the courage to come out to her human companion. The human characters demonstrate automatic acceptance and empathy, making this an especially important book for helping transgender readers see what support looks like and for demonstrating a compassionate response for readers who have transgender people in their lives. The story is a bit simple, but the message is important and comes across clearly.
Reminds me of Calvin and Hobbes submitted by Xris on August 20, 2022, 11:19pm Because the teddy is alive to Errol, it makes me think of Hobbes. And I love the illustraton on the cover, with the mirror showing how Tilly wants to present herself, with her bow in her hair, instead of as a bowtie. A very simple way to explain gender identity. I might even show this book to my GSA kids!
