“What does a town that has been to hell and back know
about the finer things in life?” was the question Eminem, a
spokesman in a car commercial asked about Detroit, in a TV
spot that was broadcast to 110 million people during the
2011 Super Bowl. Detroit? The finer things?

Director Andrew Sacks, a Detroit native, teamed up with Dr.
E. LaQuint Weaver II, founder and director of the Hallelujah
Singers to answer that rhetorical question. The result is
Let’s Have Some Church Detroit Style, a documentary film
shot over the last four years.

In this film you will have a chance to meet the twenty-five
men and women singing in this all-star community choir.
Founded in 1992, the singers and musicians in this group
show us that in a city recovering from bankruptcy, wealth is
not always tallied in dollars and cents.
