Badge Drop #1 COMING IN HOT!!!

by nicole

Oh, hey guys. How's it going? How ya been? How's your family? Your pets doing okay? Is the weather nice where you are?

That's nice.

Now that we've gotten the pleasantries out of the way...

IT'S TIME FOR THE VERY FIRST BADGE DROP OF 2016!! And we're pretty sure you're all ready to COMBUST, so let's skip the small talk and get right down to BUSINESS! Because as you all know SUMMER GAME is the most SERIOUS BUSINESS out there and we're laying it on you IMMEDIATELY RIGHT NOW! PREPARE FOR TAKEOFF!

2016 Badge Drop #1
echo theme_summergame_badge(1142,1143,1144,1145,1146,1147,1148,1149,1155,1156,1141,1153,1150,1151,1154,1152,1165,1157, 1158,1159,1160,1161,1162,1163,1164);
?>

WOW. I mean, look at those BADGE-TO-THE-BONE badges just waiting to get EARNIFIED! To be RECEIVERATED! To be ALL-LIT-UP-ON-YOUR-BADGE-PAGE-ERIZED!

This very first badge drop brings you ALL the goodness you've come to know and love! Badges about DAHL, DINOSAURS, and DANGEROUS TRAINS! Badges about MUPPETS and NARWHALS and WITCHES!

But this year we're also bringing you a WHOLE NEW, BETTER-THAN-EVER badge-getting EXPERIENCE! Now each badge series comes complete with its very own DIFFICULTY LEVEL, for those of you who like to take it nice and easy, or for those of you who are SO EXCITED that your brains have LOST THE ABILITY TO CAN. Difficulty levels are marked by handy-dandy QUESTION marks, from one to four and NOTHING MORE because anything higher would be ROCKET SCIENCE.

And not only that, but BADGES THEMSELVES have been given levels of their own! You never know when one of those badge series might have a ROGUE BADGE that's just a bit harder or easier than the rest, so check the badge levels to find a badge that works for YOU!

What this all means is that now you can decide just how INTENSE you want your Summer Game to be!

Now, if you have NO CLUE, what's going on (maybe you're just wandering around on the regular aadl.org site and you are ALARMED by the amount of CAPS LOCK you see), head over to the GET STARTED page for clarification and possibly even SNACKS*!!!

(*There are no snacks.)

PHEW. That's a lot of talking right? Maybe it's time to just get on with it, yes?

...

...

...

Well. What are you waiting for??? GET TO IT and...

THANKS FOR PLAYING!

Will there be codes at the comic arts fest this weekend, and badges to go with, like there was in the past for KRC?

Great!!
Also, by any chance, is there a slight glitch in the badges? I'm pretty sure I found the book for the first code of the Rudyard's Roots badge, but there is no code with the book. Additionally, I got the Narwhal in All badge, but didn't get the badge bonus points for it.

I think the rudyard code is missing. I tried entering the author's name, that didn't work either

Thank you for making it easier for families to participate together!

Wow awesome badge series!!!! Can't wait to work on them. I like the Dinosaur series and the under the sea badge series the best. I love the new badges!!!

I'm hooked- 'Curse you, Summer Game Staff' for making this so much fun!

I already have the narwal badge, dinosaur badge, Rudyard's root badge, the muppet badge and the greg's boy badge! But I need help on the train badge. I need the 3rd code. I found the characters and there names but I don't know how to get the code. Please tell me how to get the code.

If you know the characters then you'll know the name of the old lady who vanishes in the movie. Look up the cast for The Lady Vanishes and you'll be able to see who plays this old lady. They'll give you two words, her first and last name. Don't forget to put this DAME's official title before her name. Search that up in the catalog and you'll find the code.

I'm so excited the summer game is starting! My friend code is BEAUTIFUL667. If anyone enters this code, we'll both get 100 points. It's a great way to have fun and earn points easily.

Summer is always my favorite time of the year, for all the great things to do inside and outside. Add The Summer Game to the list!

Already having a great time with this! I don't know how some people already have 40,000 points though... I must not be doing it right.

There is no "right" way to do the summer game! Some people enjoy being on the leaderboard and are trying for first place. They are the ones doing ALL the badges, and getting ALL the codes. Others just have low key fun and don't try to race to the top. Don't forget to read everyday and enter those points!!

I'm so excited about the badge drop and getting new summer game points, but I was wondering how people got thousands and thousands of points already. Is there something they are doing to get that many points that I missed?

I think most of the people with thousands of points, have completed many badges, including visiting at least one branch. All the branches have a code outside worth 1000 points.

I am working on the It's a Frame up badge and I am having trouble with finding the very first codeword.
I am hoping some of you gamer's out there could help me with an extra clue on where I can find it.
Thanks so much
Lmd3577

I am having trouble with the second code of the Vexing with Hexers badge. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!!

Thanks so much @keebs23! Figured it out and got the badge!
Now I am having difficulties finding the second code for the Dangers on a Train badge. Any suggestions?

It may be the heat, but where is the question in this clue for the Its A Frame Up badge:

One night in 1990, two men wearing police uniforms rolled up to Boston's Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, handcuffed the guards, stole 13 works of art worth $500 million dollars, and disappeared. RUDE. Though rewards have been offered and leads have been followed, the case remains unsolved and the art is still missing. It sounds implausible, but truth is stranger than fiction. Forge ahead to earn your B.A. in Isabella Stewart Gardner heist history.

to all the summer gamers out there,
I am working on the Its a frame up badge and I am having great trouble finding the third codeword for the badge. I am hoping that some of you gamers out there can give me one more clue so I can find the third codeword.
Thanks so much
Lmd3577

I am slightly confused on how to do the third code of the It's a Frame Up badge. I know I found the person, but I'm not sure what to do with it. Any help?

To all the summer gammer's

I am working on the " All Framed Up Badge" and I need help finding the fifth and final code word. I have have looked at all info about this theft on Wikipidea and i still can't find the possible anwser they are looking for to find the fifth code word. I am hoping that some of you gamers out there can help me by giving me one more clue as to where I could find the fifth and final codeword.

Thanks so much
Lmd3577

I love the summer game!

I don't quite get what the friend codes are for, but hey, it's worth a try. Please enter my friend code and we'll each get 100 points! QUIETLY463

Thank you for putting the summer game. I've ben exited to play it. The badges are awesome!!!

YESSSS!!! Badges are pretty cool, although I usually never get to finishing all of them each year.

Need help with finding the third code for Its a Frame up. I know the persons name and the bird reference.
But not sure how to find the code in the catalog. Many thanks in advance.

I'M AN ADULT NOW WHY AM I STILL DOING THIS.

Anyways, I'm anticipating for video game related badges.

I also have about 2-3 years worth of unspent points.

A2CAF was AMAZING! So thankful to be able to meet so many artists! Have to head back today. 2 of my codes I wrote down are not working....

I went to the Artists Alley yesterday and got all the artist codes except 1! Ahhh! I think the one I am missing is Jess Boudrie. Did anyone get that one? I'm going back today, but I don't even remember if he was there. I really want the badge with the poptart rainbow cat!

@ginarae3

If you find you've missed any Alley Catcher codes at A2CAF after putting in ALL THAT WORK, no worries! Send us a Contact Us message and we'll get you the code you missed!

awesome

I am having trouble finding the last code of the It's a Frame Up badge. Any hints? Thanks!

to all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the dangers on a train badge and I am having a great deal of trouble finding the second code word. I have looked at wiki about the movie in mention and I have yet to find the anwser to the second code word. I am hoping that some of you gamer's out there can help me out by giving me one more clue as to where to find the second code word.
Thanks so much
Lmd3577

to all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the no rest for the wicked badge and I need help figuring out the first code word. I have typed in the anwser I think is right everyway imanagable and it still says code not regonized. I am hoping that some of you gamer's out there can help me out with one more clue as to what theye are looking for.
Thanks so much
Lmd3577

We are stuck on the last code for vexing hexers we have tried ossified and fossilized but still no luck. Any suggestions?

Never mind!!!! Much easier than we assumed!

YAY I am so excited that the summer game is back!! My favorite parts are the park badges and event badges :D

Summer Gamers,

I need help with finding the fourth code for the vexing hexers
Badge.
Thank you.

We are so excited to have the summer game again! Thank you for all the amazing badge categories and fun events.

Yay!

First time player of the summer games. At least, first time since I was wee and small. It'll be interesting to see what happens.

to all the summer gamer's out there,
I am working on the "No Rest For The Wicked" badge and I am still having trouble figuring out how to type in the very first codeword. I have the anwser bur I have typed it in every way I know how and it still says code not regonized. Are we supposed to look through the cataloge for a book or something related to the aurthor or re we supposet to tupe in the name in for a codeword because I am truly haveing a hard time with this one.
Thanks for the help
Lmd3577

Hey @Lmd3577,

If you have the author's full name (including the ENTIRE first name, not just the initial) then you'll need to take each letter in the name and type them into the "I Have A Game Code!" field in alphabetical order. THAT is your code! If you have trouble getting the letters in order but know the name, just shoot us a Contact us message and we can give you that code. :)

@abahta

The library BANNER codes are part of the BANNERAMA badge that's already up on the badge page. However, the library BUILDING CODES (printed on green paper) will be part of the Branch Explorer badges that will drop later this summer!

I can't find the second code in the Where's the Hitch badge. I looked in the north by northwest movie and it wasn't there. Any hints?

A *Stephen Universe* badge series? My oldest son might return to the game just for that!

My family has been counting down the days for the summer game to begin. I'm so glad it's finally here!

I AM MISSING ONE CODE FOR THE ALLEY CATCHER BADGE AND IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE.

So I was wondering if Kazu Kibuishi's table had a code or not because I didn't see one.

My first time playing the Summer Game and I'm having difficulty figuring out where to enter the friend codes folks are sharing. Mine is EXCUSE467; I'd be happy to enter yours, if you'll tell me how/where!

Thanks!

Woo hoo! The Summer Game is back in full swing! This is what really makes me feel like it's summer. I love my job all the time, but I especially love this part of the year and how excited people get over it. :)

My friend code is STEP967 if you wish to add me. :)

@debbifs you enter the friend codes same place as the game codes. Go to your my player page and click I have a game code! Hope that helps.

My family asked me to get their friend codes out there so anyone who might not have them yet can get them.

New this year - SOMEHOW363

From 2015 - BEGIN776, TRUST474, FOUND376

Thanks!

I just looked at the leaderboards and there are already people getting tons of points!

hey guys! Third clue on the hitch badge I'm trying to put in first and last names crisscrossed both ways into the catalog search what am I missing?
Help please!?

Our family loves the Summer Games! Thank you! Our friend codes are MISS777, NICE664, KISS939, and GROW999... Please add us!

Hey everyone! I'm very excited about the Summer Game this year as well! I've also got a Friend Code if you're interested - although it's the same as last year's! POCKET963 is where you can find me.

Hi Kikumatsu97

You find the third code of the dangers on a train badge by.....

If you now the person who plays "The Lady that Vanishes" ( M** *h***y), search her in the catalog and find a 2007 item.It will have the code.
I hope I could help.

Oops! Wrong code! (writing this later) You find the 4th code by....
I just typed in R***r* W****r last name so just W****r and found a 2005 item ( last word of the title is W****r)

(hint: If you can't find the actor's name, think about star wars new hope ... ***e S******** and take the last name without the first three letters.....)

I hope that I helped now

I need help with the Who's Your Baddie 4th code. Also, my friend code is HAPPY494.

– A 5th grader

Just got all the Traverwood game codes on my first pass through the building. Sort of like the family easter egg hunt where you figure out the good hiding spots after a few years of practice.

I suppose I'll put my friend code here. WEAR666. Yes, I refreshed it enough times to get that number.

I'm having difficulties finding the second code of the Dangers on a Train badge. I'm pretty sure I found the right movie, but I can't find the name of the train. Any hints?
Never mind. Got it

Thanks for making the best summer reading program with so many options for people of all ages to be involved. Looking at the leaderboard numbers there are over 500 people with over 7000 points and we haven't finished the first week yet. Way to go AADL, I am one of you fans. Love the summer games!

Looking forward to earning some more of these badges! This is my first summer doing the revamped summer reading game instead of just the classic game :) The pressure is on, especially as a staff member!

....Also, is anyone on that can help me with that last question? (Crisscrossed/Hitchcock) am I missing something? I have the actors full names and fail to understand what I'm meant to do here. It's the only one I can't figure out to save my life....luckily my life is not on the line, but nonetheless really. HEL-L-L-L-P!!

This is our first year playing. Such a clever way to get the community involved!

Yes!

So quick questions:

who here has been playing since 2011 (first year of this online program)?

And also, is there gonna be like some 5th anniversary special here?

I can't wait to see what the Summer Game Shop has this year. There have been some pretty great things in years past.

tHANKS! @KATHARINA,

I'LL CHECK IT OUT!

ACTUALLY, WHEN I LOOK UP THE PERFECT MURDER BY Hitchcock, THE ACTORS PLAYING THOSE PARTS ARE Hurd Hatfield and Philip Coolidge-----am I looking at the wrong movie? This is so hard!

Hi! My friend code is cheek647
CORRECTION: my friend code CHEEK973

Thanks!

@Kikumatsu97

Wrong movie! Notice the railway bridge on the badge? It's not just a picture; it's a theme.

@mmm

#3: Web search to find the word that means the quoted phrase. Search that name with the museum to find out what was at his house. The catalog item follows that theme. The animal references in the last sentence help you narrow down which item has the code.

#5: The "cursed team" is in the same city as the museum.

will there be park badges this year? Also, I was wondering why certain badges aren't released sooner? Such as the branch badges, park badges, event badges. It would actually be kind of helpful if these were all released early in the game to allow people to plan for them. My family finds it better to spend a day working on getting codes going to multiple places and gathering codes (usually a Saturday or Sunday since we work during the week), but when these are released late in the game it becomes stressful to get them because of other things that we have planned for.

Our family enjoys doing the Summer Game activities. Thanks for making the library so much fun!

Did you use all letters of the full name in alphbetical order (Lyman Frank Baum)? That worked for us.

I didn't take the time to figure this out in previously years, but I am determined to do so this year. Already having fun earning badges and learning how to do things on the website, like add reviews, tags and stars. I can only imagine all the work that goes into setting this program up. Thanks for all your efforts. You have won over a new participant!

Love Summer Game! I was counting down the months. Figuring out the clues is so much fun and a great way to use your brain during the summer. Looking forward to spending my points!

@Katharina- GOT IT! Thanks! The whole "perfect murder" mention in the clue really threw me off! This is the hardest badge for me so far, It was almost as hard as last year's RED HERRING badge.

Hi- I'm also stuck on the 4th clue of who's your baddie.
I keep reading to see what i'm missing, but I'm pretty sure I'm entering the answer- it just isn't taking it.
s***e is the word, I've tried entering it plural, but no go?

RowanEMH- I've tries a LOT- I've been entering s***e, and s****s, and nothing.
Can you give me a hint?

I submitted the correct answer for the Dangers on a Train badge's first clue but it isn't updating and I can't find the hint it gave for the second clue. Help?

Hi!! I need help on the last code on the Hitchcock badge?? I don't know what information I'm supposed to get can somebody give me a hint please??

This is so fun! Excited to start playing with my son. He will get a kick out of this!

I redeemed everyone's codes up to this post, so for 150 points each (50 points for being friends) redeem these four codes!

WONDER774
ENOUGH467
MANY776
MOVIE744

Yay! And please give a high-five to the person that put together the Steven Universe themed badge!

Thanks for all the help fellow gamers!
Here is my friend code if you haven't already added me
STOOD674

@Judeyblu - can confirm singular s----. If you search the plural of the word the item you need doesn't even show up in the first 120 results. Have you maybe narrowed down your search criteria too far? Make sure you are searching by "Keyword" and material = "Everything".

@moffat2 When viewing an item click "Add tags" on the left. Then type something into the field and click the "Add tags" button below it.

Hi, Our friend codes are

ABLE979
HEAR936
EXPLAIN449
LETTER973

We are new to Ann Arbor and are LOVING the Summer Games! What a fun way to learn and inspire reading!

@crankycrack

I use *kermit arms* all the time on like Facebook and other places to indicate how excited I am about something. :) I like your Kermit Dance too. :)

Having trouble with 4th Vexing Hexers. I'm searching K**n but the code is not in any of the 21 results. Thanks to anyone who can help.

I've earned all of the catalog-based badges, and am now eagerly looking forward to the new badge drop coming this evening! :)

@jmb.mlis: You have the right word. Are you sure you checked all the results? You may want to try again. Searching the word again myself (with only the default settings) it looks like the item containing the code is 9th out of the 21 results.
Hope this helps! :)

Okay, I have to ask. Am I the only one crazy/stupid/anal (pick your adjective) enough to have actually made an attempt at keeping a list of friend codes I've already redeemed? Since friend codes don't change from year to year and I entered so many in last summer, I got tired of the computer telling me I'd already entered that code. Granted, I can't go back and find the ones who don't have their friend code with their nickname but at least it's a start. Anyone else doing this or am I the only crazy one?

ValerieL: I am still at the aggravated stage, but expect to move to the list-making stage presently!

@AprilCDB

The nice thing is that the branch codes are all up by the beginning of the game. It's only the branch masters that get released later. So you can grab all those codes now and then just get a badge bonus later. I do agree about park badges. It'd be nice if they were all released at the beginning or at the very least by mid-summer so you have plenty of time to get them. Event codes have to be on the day/time of the event so that people who don't go to the event don't get the code.

I'm working on the Dangers on a Train badge. I know the name of the bridge, I know the spelling which is different than what we normally would use. But I put that in by itself or with the word bridge and it says it isn't a recognized code. What am I missing? THANKS!

Nevermind - I'm dumb...... ha! I forgot a step (still learning obviously!)

Alright - back to it!

@ValerieL

No, you're not the only one- I tried to sort out my friend codes, no luck! It is confusing. One SHOULD know who one's friends are!

So much fun! Got a bunch of badges for the first round and looking forward to the second. Thank you AADL, the summer game is a blast!

@ValerieL you are not the only one, I actually started my list last year. Hope I can find it. Haven't even attempted friend codes this year yet, I just don't have the time to devote to this as I did in years past.

Also, some people, for some reason, keep changing their name as we see it, but their friend code stays the same. So if you're trying to keep track who has what friend code, you can get confused by the people who are changing their names.

In re: to explorer, branch, etc badges... I know all the branch codes are up, so why not just release the badges? This way people can be sure they didn't miss something and have to go back and try and figure out what they missed. Some of the branches are rather inconvenient to visit because of their location relative to my location, so if I some how missed or lose a branch code from say the Main branch, if I could have entered those codes and seen that I had them all before I left the breach I wouldn't have to go back because one code got lost. And if event badges were released well in advance of an event, then people can better plan to attend said event rather than having a week or less notice. It's fustrating when an event badge is announced just days in some cases before the event that I could have attended had I known sooner but can't by the time we're told of the event badge.

@ValerieL - No, you're definitely not the only one. Although I've been playing Summer Game for a few years now, this is my first year doing friend codes, but I have already started my list. ;)

My 2nd year to play. Playing last year just made me even more excited to play this year! I never get tired of the summer game!

@yaldah & @sara - I'm so glad I'm not the only one! Part of my brain was telling me I was completely nuts for going back thru and copying what codes I could into a Word document!

Love the artwork/theme this year. My friends at different local libraries are all so jealous of me. Thank you again for making this one of my favorite parts of summer. :-)

April: I agree with you on the park/explorer badges timing issues. Alternatively it might be worth considering to release them in geographically nearby chunks, e.g. West side badges and so forth in late June, downtown badges in early July. Or else just release more earlier on and forget about geographic matters. The non-library badges are really fun, but unless the Summer Game is the only thing you do all summer, it is really hard to keep up in August. (And unexpected problems arise that can make last minute code hunting trickier such as sudden injuries or illness!)

@ValerieL : I must admit that I finally had to type all the Friend Codes into Excel, sort them, and remove the duplicates. : )

@Magicicada if you did it in Excel you didn't need to sort it to remove duplicates, there's a remove duplicates function in Excel.

One more thing: each branch has ten codes and downtown has fifteen, on green paper, so you don't need to wait for the code to know if you have them all.

So many to start with! I have to get cracking.

Really glad to see all the badges and stuff I can do even with extremely limited mobility. Thanks, AADL!

Oh my glob, STEVEN UNIVERSE! If I end up not getting all those badges, I'll be sad. I love that show. So chuffed to see it represented here, and potentially getting more people interested in it. It's great adventure with so much heart and embracing of all kinds of diversity.

I was just reading Pieces and Players by Blue Balliett and realized it was based on the same heist in "It's a Frame Up" badge. I would have never noticed if not for the badge. Its a great read for anyone looking to expand their art theft reading!

Friend code:
STOOD674

@Jenni - The code HEAR936 isn't working. I put in the other ones, though!

Mine is in my screen name: STAR473

I'm loving the badges this summer. I was out of the country for the first two weeks of the game and have a lot of catching up to do!

@Jenni - the friend code HEAR936 is not working for me. But thanks for the other codes!

MAYBE977

yay!

So. Many. Badges. I haven't gotten to yet. Entire categories going neglected! I got a later than usual start on them and have prioritized doing groups rather than each new drop.

@irishlaced

YAAAAYY! *Kermit flail*

I love the Muppets. I think watching The Muppet Show as a kid paved the way for me to enjoy a lot of different kinds of humor. It can definitely be a gateway to the meta-jokes and surrealism of Monty Python. Plus, lots of puns and other wordplay.

Luckily, I have been able to supply my own snacks throughout all the searching and tagging and reviewing and everything. The Summer Game definitely requires snacks.

I'm missing the "2016 A2CAF Alley Catcher" by two codes. :( The codes weren't all posted when we were there.

@ecronin - In case no one has contacted you/told you yet, you can use the "Contact Us" form on the website and tell them which ones you're missing (e.g. "The one between cat and dog" or whatever) and they'll get them to you. As long as it's only 2 or 3, they'll give 'em to you. :)

Clearly trying to get your comment count up, thanks for doing it on old posts and not all on the same posts.

Cool!
