Mrs. Hazen's Johnny Cake

1 egg
1 cup of buttermilk or sour milk
1 tablespoonful of shortening
1 level teaspoonful of Wyandotte soda
1 salt spoon of salt
2 cups of cornmeal
1 cup of flour
1/2 cup of sugar

Bake 20 minutes to 1/2 hour.
