Lemonade Syrup
2 cups sugar
Water
Lemon rinds
Orange rinds
Extract juice from lemons and oranges. Place fresh rinds in a 2 quart bowl, cover with water, add 2 cups sugar and simmer ten minutes. Remove rinds. Keep flavored syrup in jars near ice and use with lemon juice and ice when cool drink is desired.
Fruit Punch
2 tablespoons tea
1 cup sugar
3 lemons
2 oranges
1 pint strawberries
1 can grated pineapple
Black tea is excellent base for fruit drinks. Pour 1 pint water over 2 tablespoons of tea. Boil 2 cups water, 1 cup sugar for 5 minutes. Prepare juices of lemons and oranges, and add with fruit to the syrup.
When cold add the tea and cracked ice or ice cubes and serve.
Lemonade No. 2
One cup sugar, 1-3 cup lemon juice, 1 pint water. Boil sugar and water 12 minutes, add lemon juice and cool. Dilute with ice water.
Lemonade No. 1
Juice of 6 lemons, juice of 3 oranges, 1 cup granulated sugar. Add 1 gallon ice water.
Russian Tea
Is served hot and clear with lemon and sugar. Hot tea served with 3 cloves in each cup is fine.
Pineapple and Lemonade
One pint water, 1 cup sugar, 1 quart ice water, 1 can grated pineapple, juice of 3 lemons. Make syrup by boiling sugar and water. Add fruit and juice, strain, cool. Add ice water and serve.
Breakfast Cocoa
One and a half tablespoonfuls cocoa, 2 tablespoonfuls sugar, 2 cups boiling water, 2 cups milk, pinch salt. Scald milk, mix cocoa, sugar and salt; dilute with 1/2 cup boiling water to make smooth paste. Add remaining water, boil 1 minute, turn into scalded milk. Beat with dover beater 2 minutes and serve.
Grape Juice
To 1 gallon stemmed grapes add 1 quart water; boil in a porcelain kettle and strain through white flannel cloth. To 1 gallon of juice add 1 pint water and 1 pound granulated sugar. Heat to boiling point and seal while hot. Keep in a cool place. If you desire it sweeter add a little more sugar.
Fruit Punch
One cup water, 2 cups sugar, 1 cup strong tea, 2 cups strawberry syrup or grape juice, juice of 5 lemons, juice of 5 oranges, 1 can grated pineapple, 1 cup Maraschino cherries. Make syrup by boiling sugar and water 10 minutes. Add fruit juices and tea. Let stand 30 minutes and strain. Add ice water to make 1 1/2 gallons liquid. Add cherries last. This will serve 50 people.
To Make a Small Pot of Coffe
Mix 1 cup ground coffee with 1 egg, slightly beaten; to 1-3 of this amount add 1-3 cup cold water; turn into coffee pot; add 1 pint boiling water; boil 3 minutes. Keep remaining coffee closely covered in cool place to use 2 successive mornings.
