by Edith Wharton

[cover_image]B00092ZLKI[/cover_image]

Having just gotten back from Disney World, I'm interested in seeing if you know more about Asia than Epcot. Really fabulous prizes will be awarded March 15, 7pm at NEB for the most truthy, and perhaps factual answers.

Question number 6: What is important about the Edo period in Japan?
(1603-1867)

Past questions:
5: What or when is Edo?
4: What is a "kitsune"?
3: Is Xellos Good or Evil? Explain.
2: What is the Japanese name for Japan?
1: What is the difference between a Japanese and Chinese Pagoda?

Super Smash, DDR, Karaoke Revolution and More: This Weekend!

by eli

We've got a weekend of multiplayer mayhem lined up for you at the library, starting off with a Super Smash Bros. Melee Tournament for ages 13+, Friday Night, 2/24, from 6-9 PM at the Downtown Library. First prize $40, Second prize $30, third prize $20.

Then, on Saturday, 2/25, we've got an all-ages Dance Dance Revolution tournament from Noon-3 Downtown, immediately followed by our first ever all-ages Karaoke Revolution tournament, from 3-5! So you can dance, but can you SING? These tournaments will feature the lovely and talented Edith as your MC, and the format will be similar to our DDR tournaments, with qualifying duets for score, and then elimination. Both tournaments will have $40/$30/$20 prizes, so if you're a double threat, you can win big. Games will be either Karaoke Revolution volume 3 or Karaoke Revolution Party, with all songs unlocked. Check out songlists here.

We'll then head into midwinter break with Open Play events, including DDR Mario Mix, Donkey Konga, Monkey Ball, and more, Sunday, 2/26 and Monday 2/27, from 1-4, for grades 5 and under, and Teen Open Play, Tuesday, 2/28 from 1-4.

So, brave the winter winds, get downtown, and warm up with some hot competition this weekend!

No need for Bushido

by Edith Wharton

UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who came! Next Animanga Club meeting will be the FURUBA Reunion!

Kanpai! Its time to announce the next Animanga Club program. On March 15, AC will be meeting the Northeast Branch (Plymouth road and Nixon, the little shopping mall) and the theme will be Samurai.. or basically all anime involving samurai-like characteristics (think Samurai Champloo, as well as Bleach).

So what is your favorite Swordsman/samurai series? Favorite character? I would have to say Bleach right now (Byakuya certainly makes an impression on me.. cold, unfeeling and weird hair!).. but that's because I'm on Episode 44 of the series, and if I were rich, I would have bought all the books by now.

Also, what would you like to watch during the last part of the program? I'm partial to Bleach, but I'm open to bribes.. er I mean, suggestions.

Madden at the Library

by ejk

No, not the man, the game.

Boom! The Superbowl is coming to the great lake state, and the library is getting in the football spirit. Warm up for the big game by displaying your virtual gridiron skills in the AADL MaddenBowl tournaments. What team will you choose to lead to victory? Get on The Bus with the Steelers and Big Ben? Maybe pick the Seahawks with the power running of Shaun Alexander. Or just pick the always cheesy speed QBs Vick and Culpepper.

Friday February 3, 2006: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm -- Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room
Saturday February 4, 2006: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm -- Downtown Library Multi-Purpose Room

1st prize is a $50 gamestop giftcard, with $40 for 2nd place, and $30 for third. Now go out there and give 110%! One game at a time! It's a marathon, not a sprint!

MC Otakon: Furuba

by Edith Wharton

Ohayo gozaimasu!
MC Otakon is back for another night of discussion, quizes, my home-made(okay, out of the box) brownies and Anime viewing. All the free books have been taken, but if you've read the series you are welcome to drop in to Malletts Creek on Wednesday night at 7pm. Be advised.. like AADL GT, I have a tendency to run overtime to watch an extra episode. And I prefer the sub, not the dub, much to certain fans' dismay.

Okay now to discussion of the books.. this week we're talking about 4-6. Some of my favorite moments after the break.

The Myth of Dynamite: Exposed!

by eli

RPS is an international sporting organization built around a contest that is centuries old. In Japan, it's called Jan Ken Pon; in Germany, Schnick Schnack Schnuck; and in parts of the US it's known as Roshambo. Rock Paper Scissors is a simple game, but when played in a competitive series, it becomes an intense, high-stakes contest of psychology, intuition, and nerves of steel. Next week, we've got Chris Berggren, Bronze Medalist from the 2004 Rock Paper Scissors World Championships, to tell his story, share strategies, and assist at the first ever AADL Rock Paper Scissors Tournament, July 14th, 2:00 PM, at the Downtown Library.
