Bram’s Quest By Nina Ang “There Bram goes again, playing with fire.” said Clyde shaking his head. “Origami dragons always learn the hard way.” “Bram’s going to burn into ashes the way he’s acting.” said Elder Origami Dragon. “OWWWWWWWW!” screamed Bram. “My tail!” “Bring in the carbon dioxide.” Elder Dragon said with a sigh. Then a guard dragon named Clay came in with something like a bellows and a fan put together called a bellow fan. The guard dragon turned it on and grabbed Bram’s tail while he was running by and extinguished the flames on his tail. “Ahhhhhhh, that feels better.” Bram said with a sigh of relief. “Thank you Clay.” Stated Elder Dragon. Then he pointed at Bram and said. “You will be taken off hunting for 2 months and will serve as jail guard during that time. Understood?” “Yes Elder Dragon.” Bram replied. “Bram time for cell check.” Said Clyde “Okay, Clyde.” Then Bram walked over to a cell and pushed a switch on the right side of the cell. Bing! Bram had disappeared. What happens in a cell check is the dragon who pushes the switch becomes sort of like a ghost. Meaning you can’t touch him or see him but he can touch and see you. Then the dragon is to inspect the walls and bedding. So Bram finished checking all the cells and then went to stand guard. Then blackness covered Bram’s mind and he drifted to sleep. When Bram woke up he heard whispering coming from the cell to the left. Bram looked over and saw two dragons. “Where are we going to get the matches Hortense?” Asked the dragon on the right. Bram’s Quest Page 1 “Shhhhh. Not so loud Xeno. I wish origami dragons could breathe fire, it would make things so much easier. Anyway I have a friend on the other side of the cells who knows where we can get matches.” Hortense replied. “How are we going to get to that friend of yours?” Xeno asked. “I’ve already visited her and she said that if we dig a tunnel straight from the back of the cell there is a merchant not too far off.” Replied Hortense. “Nice. Once we burn the village down we can take the land for our own.” Xeno said. Then they fist bumped and went to bed. Bram felt sick to his stomach. I must go tell Elder Dragon he thought. “I request a meeting with Elder Dagon.” Bram said to Clay. Clay nodded and went inside the room. He returned a minute later and gestured for Bram to come in. “What’s wrong Bram? Trying to escape punishment?” Elder asked, smiling. “No Elder Dragon. I’ve come for more serious problems.” Bram replied. The smile on Elder dragons face disappeared. Bram explained all he had heard and Elder Dragon asked, “Do you know anything else?” “No Elder Dragon.” Bram replied. “Thank you Bram. I will place extra guards.” Said Elder dragon “Resume your daily activities. Dismissed.” “I see light, Hortense! We’re nearly there.” Then the tunnel opened to a large room with a frog and a table on the far right. “State your business.” The frog said. “We’ve come to buy some matches and get some hypnotizing potion and go through the tunnel of freedom.” Hortense said. “You mean the tunnel that leads to the Elder Dragon’s room?” The frog asked. “Yes.” Hortense replied. Then Hortense and Xeno walked over to the table and picked out the longest Bram’s Quest Page 2 matches and picked up a little sack. Then they went over to the frog and the frog asked, “How would you like to pay?” “The magic words of the day.” Hortense replied. The frog nodded and gestured for Hortense to keep going. “Victor victima fit.” “Have fun in the tunnel of freedom.” The frog said and waved goodbye. “Hortense, why did you get hypnotizing potion?” “We got it so we can control Elder Dragon. All we need to do is get him unconscious.” When they emerged they found Elder Dragon mumbling to himself. Hortense made a gesture for Xeno to go cuff Elder Dragons mouth. Hortense then went to the other side and held Elder dragon’s nose. Suddenly Elder Dragon collapsed! “Sweet dreams.” Xeno said. Then Hortense shoved a little of the potion down his throat. The next day Bram went to check the cells but when he approached he didn’t hear anything. He decided that all of the prisoners must have been tired and were sleeping in. Then he hit the ghost button and disappeared. He decided to go to Xeno and Hortense’s cell first and when he went in he heard a Bing! Then he realized that the Bing was the ghost button! Then Bram materialized and immediately turned and saw Hortense standing on the outside of the cell. “Hello Bram. I bet you didn’t expect to see me did you?” Hortense asked “Well, things have been going very bad for you eh?” “Boo hoo.” “Let me out of here right now.” Bram said with a growl. “Not when it’s going so well. Have fun in there.” Hortense said sarcastically and walked away. Bram decided to look around since the bars were made out of duct tape and were too hard to peel off. Something jolted in the back of his head and he remembered what Hortense had said. He turned to the back of the cell and started searching for the tunnel, when he heard keys. He whipped around and to his relief he saw Clyde! “Elder Dragon is gone, come quickly.” Clyde said, his voice shaking with worry. Bram’s Quest Page 3 “What happened, Clyde?” Bram asked as they were running down the hallway in the prison. Clyde answered, “Well, I was going to go ask Elder Dragon a question when I heard voices. One was Elder Dragon! I heard him say ‘Ha Ha Ha Ha once we burn the village down we’ll let all the prisoners escape and slowly take over the world.’” Bram exclaimed “Wow, Clyde if that was Elder Dragon what are we going to do?” “Wait, Bram I haven’t finished explaining. While I was walking down there I saw a sparkly liquid on the floor. I looked at it more closely and it turns out it was hypnotizing potion! Which means Elder Dragon must have been hypnotized and told what to do!” Clyde explained. “Alright, from what happened it’s obvious that it was Hortense and Xeno the prisoners. If what I heard is true then they are going to burn the village down, but they probably would want to go somewhere that would have fuel for the fire to start it. Well, besides us dragons.” Bram added dryly. “And they wouldn’t want any dragons to be there.” “Which probably means that they would be in Elder Dragon’s study.” Bram continued. “He took me there when I got in trouble. He has oil in there, and he said that he was studying it.” “And that would mean that Elder Dragon must have unlocked it for them.” Clyde finished. “Exactly.” Bram replied. They headed to Elder Dragon’s study and found the door locked. Bram gritted his teeth and said, “Great, now how are we going to get in there?” Then Clyde said, “I have the keys.” Then Clyde opened the door to find Elder Dragon laying on ground, unconscious with Xeno and Hortense standing over him. Bram ran up to them and threw a red berry from his pocket that stunned them for a second. Bram rushed to a shelf and grabbed a yellow vile that said Hypnotizing Antidote. Then he grabbed Elder Dragon’s throat and poured some of the antidote down his throat. Immediately Bram looked to his right and saw Hortense, striking a match on the box. Then the match started burning. Xeno, being startled by the sudden warmth bumped into Hortense, dropping the match right near the oil can! The can of oil erupted in flames and went up Hortense’s leg, instantly, killing her and Bram’s Quest Page 4 Xeno. Then Bram, recovering from the shock, leaped for the shelf where the bellow fan was. The fire crept forward and almost touched him as he reached the shelf. Bram grabbed the bellow fan and flew to where Elder Dragon was and turned it on. When he reached him the flames leapt up and caught his tail! The heat was too much and he fainted. But the bellow fan was still on and extinguished the flames. When he woke up Bram looked around and saw Clyde, Clay, and Elder Dragon standing over him. “Where am I?” “You’re in my study.” Elder Dragon explained. “You’re a hero, Bram.” Then Bram felt his tail, now much shorter and gasped, which made him cough and Elder Dragon said “Take it easy Bram.”... Bram had to stay in a stretcher for 2 weeks and finally was able to walk. Bram was taken out of guard duty and has stayed away from fire ever since. The End Bram’s Quest Page 5
