Find codes, solve puzzles, attend events, and earn points towards awesome AADL prizes—courtesy of the Ann Arbor District Library and the Friends of the Ann Arbor District Library! You don't even need a library card to play! There are a bunch of ways to play, but first, let's get you started . . .
If you are new to the Summer Game, WELCOME! Home base for the Summer Game is play.aadl.org, where you'll find badge drops and links to all the stuff you can do!
OKAY, TIME TO SIGN UP!
Sign up by logging in or creating an AADL account, and then create a Summer Game player from there.
Have an existing AADL account? Login, go to My Game Players in the menu, and fill out the form if you haven't already created a player! You only need to do this step ONCE; next year you can just start playing!
Need to create an AADL account? If you are creating a new aadl.org account during Summer Game, the form to create a player will conveniently prompt you to sign up during account set-up. You'll only need to do this step once!
Don't have a Library card? If you don't have a Library card, you can still create a Summer Game account and play along using the same instructions as above!
For parents: You can add kids and teens to your Summer Game profile, or they can have their own accounts! Add them as extras if you all tend to play together. Create their own AADL accounts if they are playing independently!
Want to play via text message? You can link your cell phone to your account under My Players. You can also text NEWPLAYER to 734-327-4200 to create a profile quickly, but you'll want to attach it to an account later. Then, text codes to 734-327-4200 to earn points on the go! (Messaging and data rates may apply.)

There are THREE WAYS TO PLAY. You can do as much or little as you want!!! :D
1) THE SUMMER READING GAME
This is our classic summer reading program—you decide if you want to play on paper or digitally! Pick up an Explorer's Guide (with Summer Game Reading Card included) at any AADL library, or download the card from our website! You can also play the Summer Reading Game online by logging what you read on your My Players page!
Kids can complete the Summer Reading Game by reading or listening to 10 books. Teens and adults can complete the Summer Reading Game by consuming 10 ANYTHINGS (books, podcasts, magazines, articles, or pieces of content). Finish 10 books (or anythings) to earn Summer Game points, a free book, and a coupon for $1 off a book at any of the Friends shelves at any AADL location, or their Bookshop at 265 Parkland Plaza.
2) THE SUMMER GAME: EXPLORER CODES
Explore parks, all five AADL locations, lawn signs around town, and sites across the city, or attend AADL events to find Summer Game codes. Plan your adventures using the Summer Game Map or the Badges list! Redeem those codes for points, badges, and prizes galore! Once you've dipped your toes in, you'll start noticing codes all over town!
3) THE SUMMER GAME: ONLINE CODES
Hidden in the AADL’s online catalog are hundreds of Summer Game codes worth thousands of points. Every Friday, the AADL Summer Game team releases a new series of themed online puzzles, which can be solved with savvy searches of our catalog and the web. Discover these secret codes, unlock points for prizes, and earn special badges throughout the summer. Start with the Go! badge to learn how. Find badges in our weekly Badge Drops or on the Badges list!!

YOU MENTIONED PRIZES?!
Every code you enter, every badge you earn, and every puzzle you solve gives you Summer Game points. Those points can be used to get Summer Game prizes in the Summer Game Shop, which opens in early July. Past prizes have included t-shirts, stuffed animals, vintage lunch boxes, pins, coffee from Roos Roast, tea from Arbor Teas, coffee mugs, notebooks, frisbees, beach blankets, tote bags, umbrellas, and so much more!

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1) Is the Summer Game just for kids?
Heck no! Kids (and parents) have tons of fun participating in the Summer Reading Game but guess what? At least half of our players aren’t kids! Teens and adults love puzzles and scavenger hunts and getting points to use for free stuff too! Fun for all ages—and we're not just saying that!
2) How long does the Summer Game go?
The game starts on the last day of school for the public schools and goes through the last day of summer break. Players can sign up at any time during the summer and have plenty of days to earn points, win prizes, and have fun.
3) Can my kids play the Summer Game if they don’t have a Library card?
SURE! Summer Game accounts can add extra players to their profiles and help young ones and family members enjoy the Summer Game as well. Codes can be entered separately for each player or texted through a single number to credit each account with the code.
4) Do I need an Ann Arbor District Library card to play the Summer Game?
Nope! Anyone can play the Summer Game if they create an account on aadl.org.
5) Where can I find some easy codes to get started?
If you're into exploring, a lot of players like to walk through each of AADL's five libraries, tracking down the 10 codes hidden inside each branch and 15 codes Downtown! There's also a big banner hanging on the outside of each library with a larger-than-life code as well.
6) When does the Summer Game Shop open?
The Summer Game shop opens for orders July 11. But you'll be able to view prizes in the shop when the game starts.
7) How many prizes can I order in the Summer Game Shop?
You can order up to four prizes per Summer Game player in the shop regardless of how many points they cost!
8) When are new codes and badges added to the Summer Game?
New badges drop every Friday during the Summer Game, plus a few surprise badge drops here and there. Check the main page at play.aadl.org to keep up on the latest drops.
