A mother and her child, being two of the unfortunate slaves who recently tried to escape from Washington in the eohooner Peirl, were about lo be sold tn a Southern trader.- Time was precious. Doctor Bailey, of the Era, made an ett'ort to raise tlie means to save .them from a fate worse ttian death. The price to be paid was $400. He obtained S131, in cash, paid it over, and gave bis note at sixty days for $269, and the mother and child were aved, and areree. Dr. Bailey is notable to pay this sum. He is an Editur, and t s the height of absurdity to suppose that aii editor can pay $209 ! nor ought he to pay it. He itands on the outposts of Liberty, and is hiinielf liable to be driven from Washington by a mob, have his press thrown into the Potomac. We happened to learn these facts, and though not authorizad or requested to make them public, venture to do so, and to make an appeal in behalf of Dr. Bailey. Will not the i'riends of Liberty contribute to repay to him this 82691 They certainly ought,- we trust they will.
