Indianapolis, March 'i. - Ex-President Cleveland in a letter to the Indiana Tariff ieform league declining to be present at ihe league's annual meeting, says: "You will not, I hope, think it amiss if I suggest the necessity of pushing, with more vigor than ever, the doctrine of your organization. I believe that the theories and practices which tariff reform antagonizes are responsible for many, if not all, of the evils which affliet our people. If there is a scarcity of the circulating medium, is not the experiment worth tryng, as a remedy, of leaving the money in the hands of the people, and for their use, which is needlessly taken away from :honi under the pretext of necessary taxation? "If the farmer's lot isa hard one in his discouraging struggle for better rewards of his toil, are the prices of his products to ia improved by a policy which hampers trade in his best markets and invites the competition of dangerous rivals? Whether other meaus of relief may appear Decessary to relieve present hardships, I believe the principie of tariff reform promses a most important aid in their amelïoration, and that the continued and earnesj advocacy of this principie is essential to the lightening of the burdens of our countrymen.
