Removal Of Mr. W. H. Hawkins
The county of Washtenaw, as well as Ypsilanti, has lost a good citizen in the removal of W. H. Hawkjns to Detroit. The Ypsilanti Sentinel says: "In the departure from this city of Mr. Walter H. Hawkins, Ypsilanti loses not only a pioneer, but one of the most public-spirited citizens she has ever known. For years and years no public enterprise has been pushed to success which has notfound in him an ardent and valuable worker, and many public improvements stand as monuments to his zeal. "Mr. Hawkins canae to Ypsilanti in 1835, and for most of the time since has resided here. He has held various offices of public trust, and his administration has been marked for efficiency. Like many another who has sacrificed himself to his public spirit, Mr. Hawkins has never accumulated financial wealth; but, unless cities are ungrateful, he has laid up a store of gratitude for his work which ought to take more substantial form. "The Sentinel cordially wishes for Mr. and Mrs. Hawkins, the latter being fully as deserving as her husband, happiness and prosperity in their new field in Detroit."
