On Dr. Phinizy's place in Columbia coanty there Uves a negro named Johnson Lowe. He is pretty well supplied ■with chickens, bat, as he says, "they are the most pecaliarest chickens he eber did see. " They lay and hatch like all other chickens, but in a very novel way. In the yard are seven or eight chinaberry trees, and in each of these the hens have built nests Some of them are twelve and fifteen feet from the gronnd. One old frizzly hen set the example, flying into a tree with dry grass, twigs, cotton, etc, and boilding her nest in a crotch. Straightway three or fcmr others did likewise, and now they won't lay anywhere else.
