Chicago, April 29.- Richard Griffiths, founder of the order of the Knights of Labor in Chicago and the west, died at 8:30 o'clock yesterday morning. He had been exceedi agly ill for weeks, his disease being enlargement of the heart, complicated with la grippe. Mr. Griffiths organized the first assembly of the kniglts in Chicago- "Old 400," as it is still called by members who joined the organization in 1877 and 3878. He was the fast friend of Uriah Stevens, of Philadelphia, who was the founder of the knights, and attended the first session of the natioual body in Readingabout fourteeu years ago. Since that time Mr. Griffiths has been a a f ai thf ui and prominent worker in the order.
