At a meeting of the Royal Botanical society the secretary brought to the notice of members a portion of a large poplar lately blown down in the gardens, showing a Detwork of roots running almost rcrand the trunk, betwcen the bark and wood, at some distance from tbe gronnd. The plant had apparently derived its nonrishment not from the soil, but from tlie decaying portions of itself.
