Many Families Destitute

Big Rapids, Mich., May 15.- From Mauistee to Huron, oa the luwer peninsnla, forest firea are still raging. Up to date the loss is estimated at $2,000,000, and it will probably be doubled unless checked by rain. The loss in the upper tiers far exceed this estímate. Fully forty families are reported destitute at Hart. Twin Lake has so far been preserved, but the danger is not yet over. In the vicinity of White Cloud rains have subdued the flres, but huudreds of families ure destitute. The situation at E9canaba is very serious. With a high wind the place would be in great danger. All the inhabibants of Walkerville, which was burned last Sunday, have escaped.
