The Day At Other Points
Philadelphia, June 1.- The feature of the proceedings on Memorial Day in this city was the presence of President Harrison, who with a G. A. R. bdge on the breast of hiscoat sm-pped off the train fronu Washington City at 11:30 a. m. He was properly escorted to Meade post, G. A. R. headquarters, and later to the cemetery where he took part in the exercities like the other veterans, but did not speak. Befort I liis departure to this city there was a public reception, at 4 p. m. a dinner, and latei another reception to Meade Post. A Qviestioii That I Settled. At the public reception Mayor Stuart welcomed the president, who responded in a speech in which he said: "'You did not at all depart from the great lessons which were taught by the founders of this great colouy when, uniting with your conirades from all the states, you went into the field to hold up this banner, to maintain a peace which should be perpetual and all-pervading in all the states. Obedience to the law is the flrst element of domestic peace and social order. You went out to maintain that, and have established, as I believe. agaia in the afïections of all ourpeople the old flag of our fathers, and have settled perpetually the question of loyal submission to the constitution and the law in all the states."
