In the neighborhood of the extmct Eifel volcano, near the Rhine, in Germany, are found springs of mineral waters which give off large volumes of natural carbonic acid gas. This natural gas becomes thoroughly purified in passing up through some two or three hundred feet of water, which of course means ;i considerable pressure upon the gas. This gas, being duly collected on the surface, is subjected by means of pumps to the pressure of five or six hundred pounds per square inch, condensing it intu a clear transparant liqtrid, which isforthwith stored in steel or wrought iron cyündersot spetrul cünslvuctionand exceptional streilgth. The manufacture of aerated waters is now readily earried on by rueaus of these tubes, which are easily transported in a tnanner at once simple, rapid and inexpensive, uo inachinery whatever being required. The apparatus consists simply of a closed copper vessel of any required size, nearly fiiled with ordinary pure water and connectedwith a tube of compressed gas. On turning a tap on the table the liberated gas rushes uuiïer high pressure into the copper vessel, beconaes thoroughly incorporated with the water, and I produces forthwith the aerated mineral water which is eo largely consumed and so iustlv aDüreciated at the present day. The aerated water can now be drawn off for iinmediate consumption or bottled f or future use. Mineral water thus produced is stated to be entirely free from any flavor of chemicals, sometí mes discernible in that which has been prepared from artificial carbonic acid gas. - Chambers' Journal.
