Monument To Gen. Hartranft
NORRISTOWS, Pa.. June S. - Norristown was invaded Saturday by an army of veteran soldiers and dO.OÜO civilians whoJiad come to pay their respecta to the meiuory of the man who was twice governor of Pennsylvania and one of the bravest Boldiers of the Union army - Maj. Gen. John F. Hartranft. The monument that has been erected by subscriptiou of the National Guards of Pennsylvania to Gen. Hartranft was unveiled at nis tomb in Montgomery cemetery. Gov. Fattison Prestded. The parade, under command of Gen. J. P. IS. Gobin, formed at 2 o'clock and marched to the cemetery where the ceremonies attendant on unveiling of the monument took place at 3 o'clook. Governor Pattison presided, and Gen. George R. Snowden, commander of the National Guard, spoke in behalf of the soldiers, and Gen. James W. Latta deli vered the address of the day. The monument was unveiled by Miss Margaret North, daughter of Col. George North, who has been one of the most active in the raising of subscriptions.
