Newberry Hall Dedicated

Xewberry Hall, the home of the Students' Christian Association, was dedicated, last Sunday afternoon, free from all debt. After an anthem by the choir, an Invocation by Rev. A. S. Carnan, and reading oí the scriptures by Rev. Richard Rust, Mr. A. E. Jennings pave a history oí the Associatiou and the building. The Christian Associatiou was organized in 1857. In 1883 ït decided to build a home of its own. In 1887 a lot was purchased and the 4ssociation had $1,700 left. In July, 1887, Mrs. Newberry, of Detroit, agred to give $15,000 towards the juildiug. The corner stone was laid m April, 1888, and work coutinuod until 1890, when the funds gave out. [n Maren of this year, the work of ïmishing the building began. Dr. "W. J Herdman, the treasurer, reported $35,832.02 as raised by the Association, $1,000 of which was for the library. The total cost of the building was $36,772.02, leaving a leaving a deficit of $2,343.37. Of the contributions, $10,000 was raised in AnnArbor,$21,000 in Detroit, includiug Mrs-Newberry's donation.other places in the state,$3,000, outside sources, $3,000. The „dedication ode, by Prof. F. N. Scott, was read by Rev. J. V. Bradshaw, and sang by the audience. Rev. J. M. Gelston offered the dedicatory prayer. '■ President Angelí read a letter from Mrs. Newberry agreeing to contribute the amount necessary to free the building from debt. He congratulated the Association upon the successful completion of the work. Prof. D'Ooge gave an address ou the Association and lts New Home and presented the key of the building to the president of the Christian Association, Mr. C. P. McAllister, who responded in a neat speech. Prof. Spauldiag read a resolution of thanks to Mrs. Newberry, Mr. Brearley, the la dies of Ann Arbor, Prof. Greene and Mr. A. E. Jennings, passed by the board of trustes. The choir sang an anthem and Rev. Henry Tatlock proiiounced the benediction.
