The Ladiee' Library assodation o:1 Ann ArbüT is an organization whieb lias been in our miust tor over twentytlve years. Lü all benefits made familiar tfcrougti long associatlon, ïts advantagee perliaps aro not rightly eititnated. It has been said that il luw passed its days of useïulness in me lacrease of other librarles and the opportuiiities aíforded by that oí tlie University. We do not think so. It efcpplies a deraand met only by a cjrculating library, supplylng reading matter to aged persons, to Invalida and the many to whom it is impossible to make use oí a library where the bftoks cannot be drawii. The history oï this association, origiiiitfd by three or ïour ladies of the city, when its advantages In all directioas were limited and ït was a pioneer .moveinent, is well known. The sicceKsors oí these ladies through continued efforts were able ïn 1885 to eiect on Hurón street a building on■whicli the sum of $800 remainè to be paid. Mr. David Henning lias kindly oífered to dónate $100 toward the Hquidation of tliis debt if it is paid within tbe Library year, wliieh expires next April. Mr. Jolui F. Lawrence lias proonised to do the same. Several other friends ave made pledges of various suuis until tlie amount is reduced to $300. This is very eneouiagiug indeed to have fhe prospect oï so smaü a sum respectively to raise, but aa tlie $500 is piedged aaly on condition that tlie $300 is raised beiore next April it is urged inost earnestly that uil friends of the library come ioi-ward and substantially aid the ladics, that they may not foríeit the lunuumt proiniaed them. It ís propcteed to hold a sale of dolls, íancy aijtieles and candies, suitable as gits íor Chriatmas, at the Library, on Saturday, December 19, to aid in aonie uieitóure toward the desired end. Contributions oí money or arucles iot the sale are earnestly reqneated' ïor th-at day, Saturday, December 19. Tlie sale will be held both momlüg a ad aiternoon.
