The question of what to buy for Christmas present and where to buy ; is one that bothers everybody, and or the benefit of its readers the Akgus ïas taken pai ns to visit the stores of uch of our merchants as carry lines f uoliday goods and inspect their tocks during the past week. It is safe ,o say that never were the lines of Ghristmas gifts displayed more varied nd more beautif ui than this year, and :ie prices asked are reasonable and within the reach of all. The places isited by the Argits were as follows: W. D. ADAMS, Bazaar at No. 13 S. Main street, where ïearly everythiiig, both useful and rnamental, in be found. Mr. Adams hows thousands of toys for the children, some of which are very inexpenive, while others combine the niechancal ccenius and are more expeusive; games of all kinds, picture books, fancy jaskets, plush goods of all kinds, lamps n a hundred different styles, fancy oods, china, glassware, dinner sets, chamber sets, etc. In fact, if there is anybody who can't be suited here he is, ndeed, hard to please. GEOKGE L. MOOHE, Bookseller and stationer ut No. 6 S. Main street, shows also a handspme ine of goods appropriate for the holilay season. Of course, his line of sooks are too nunierous tomention, including those at prices so low that you would hardly believe it and others which are the highest clsss of art. üeautiful hand-painted placques and beautifui Christmas cards attract special attention here, as also does a ine of fancy calendars of unique and ïovel styles Besides these, are shown uuidsome plush and leather albums and fancy articles, gaines, gold pens in pearl and novel holders, and hundreds of fancy articles, any of which would inake a handsome Christmas gift. j. c. & w. w. watts, Jewelers, No. 10 S. Main street, have a flne stock, any article of which would be just what is watited for a holiday present. The}' show a flne line of diamond rings, studs, scarf-pins, sleevebuttons, ear drops, and pins, besides others just as handsome which are not embelished with precious stones. In watches of all kinds, no flner selection was ever shown in the city. Yesterday they opened a new line of novelties in solid silver and plated-ware. Rings, ehains, jewelry, usef ui household goods and table-ware are shown by this firm in all styles and prices. One line worthy of special mention is their souvenir spoons, on which they make a specialty, and being the popular fad, are just the thing for a Christmas gift Their spoons include the styles made popular by this firm, the "University' and " Michigan," besides scores of other patterns. QEOKGTS WAHR'S Bookstore, in the Masonic block, is always i popular place with holiday buyers, and this year is no exception. Art goods, fancy calendare, booklets, children's books, standard works, in sets and singly, albums, gold pens and , fancy holders, plust) goods in novelties and useful articlesin greatvariety,are but a few of the many articles which Mr. Wahr offers to seekers for holiday gifts. 3. J. GOODYBAK, The druggist, has an especially line display of fancy articles. Antique pitchers in ivory, enamel and bronze, toilet sets of every kind and variety, hand glasses, toilet glasses, glove and handkerchu'.f cases, brushes and combs, jewel cases, Roy al Worcester ware, statuary, pocketbooks, cut glass bottles filled with the ünest perfumes and many other articles. DEAN & CO., At 44 S. Main street, are so well known to holiday buyers that they need no introduction. Their store has for years , been the headquarters for Christmas gifts and this year is no exception. The store is lilled with thousands of articles which are neededfor presenta. These are of such variety that it would be useless to attempt to enumérate theni. Cali and see for yourself. h. rAndall's. "The choicest line ever shown in the city" is a remark made this year by visitors at Randall's art rooms on Iluron street. And it is well deserved. Main Street, show a fine line of everything in their line. Two üne, Steinway pianos, (one of which is sold, however,) and a Chickering piano, together with a score of fine Mehlins, raake an elegant showing of pianos. Besides they have organs, piano lamps, pi ish and silk piano scarfs, music rolls, guitars, banjos, mandolins and other musical presents in great numbers. MARTIN IIALLER, The f urniture dealer, 52 S. Main street. has a store filled with the most useful as well as the most ornamental Christmas gifts. Artistic f urniture and novelties in furniture always flll a longfeit want, and Mr. Ilaller is surely prepared to stop this want, and at prices which are the most reasonable. H. J. BROWN, ïhe druggist, is closing out his line of strictly holiday goods, so that his store is the place where you can buy some very handsome holiday gifts at prices which will be pleasing to you. It pays to take advantage of such geuuine closing out sales. Urown has also just opened a line of choice confectionery in boxes. His perfumes are the choicest to be found. WM. ARNOL.D. "ewelry is always acceptable for gifts, specially to the ladies, and Arnold as a well established reputation for arrying an elegant line for Christmas gifts. A diamond ring would bring happiness to many a heart. The watches shown were never handsomer in design. The pins, scarf-pins, rings, earrings, chains and other varietiea of j ewelry were never exhibited of handsomer designs. SHEEHAN & CO., The State street booksellers, are selling Encyclopedia Britannicas, twentyfive volumes, ninth edition, for $30, one of the mostuseful of presents. The booklets and Christmas novelties in this store are very handsome and suit all purses. Art goods are shown in profusión. All the standard books are to be found here, as well as all the latest gift books. No mistake will be made in buying presents at Sheeban's. J. H ALLER Has a fine line of gifts of everything in the jeweler's art: watches, diamonds, rings, ladies' and gents' chains, sleevebuttons, etc. In solid silver and silverplated novelties, the flrm shows many attractions. Their store is filled with many things which will plea.se the fancy and serve as handsome mementoes for Christmas. STEFFEY & SEKVISS, The postoffice newsdealers, have a fine assortment of cigars, which make most acceptable presents to gentlemen, and they offer very choice brands. The boxes of candies, exceedingly choice, will make the right kind of a gift to the ladies. A fine assortment of stationery may be seen, rapecially of the finer grades, All the Christmas periodicals for sale. Buy a box of cigars or candy, or a box of fine stationery.
