The boat rode o'er the rolling f oam, Tbey pulled against the wind, For 'twas rough within the Harbor bar, The breakers reared lehind; And gray gulls shrieked o'er the shelt'rinf bar, The caverns with sea birda were lincd. They went to draw the flshing neta; A cruel, crested wave ?vvept slowly on to the Harbor bar, " And 8cooped for them a grave; The boat Leeled over the harbor bar, And keel up to the women drave. They went to save the salmón neta Out of the leaden sea, Twas just outside of the Harbor bar, Near to home as could be; 't was just behind the sandy bar And beyond the littlestone quay. One moment black against the wave, The women still with dread, Tben the boat leapt over the Harbor bar. And on ti the Mothers sped; And two lads lost o'er the sh;f üng bar Till the sea giveth up her dead. fjiey went to i ave tint salmón neU Out of the surging sea, From just without the sandy bar.
