Not long ago a neighbor in a trame 'house was burneil out and the residente in the vicinity all worked hard to try and save sonie of his furniture. To oiur ,arpi-ise the man seemed quite indifferent to the fate of his chairs and tables, but ran great risk of being biirned alive in his efforts to save a few flowers in some shabby looking pots. It did not appear to rne that his flower collection ras worth a dollar altogether, and I could not imagine why he took such pains to save it tïoin burning. I found out afterward that it was not the flowers or the roots that he eared for. a í tliey were all scattoed roughly il the front of the hotise, nor for the [)ot: . wliich he threw away. The secret tnrned out to be that he was using kis floiver pots as banks in which to store his spare mouey, and he admitted on beina nuestioned that he had boen doing
