One of the great events of the season will occnr on Feb. lst art the Grand opera house in the appearance of this jroat actress. Mme. Modjeska has been spending the past year in Europe, where she has been playing remarkably successf'ul engagements. During tlie months of March :uid April she was t the Imperial Theatru, Warsaw, wliere for the entire perïod ot her stay her audienses were limitéti only by the size of the house; and notwithstanding the t'act that her prices of admission were doubled the seats were nearly all bueht up by speculatora who re-sold them at tv laige protit. Oecasionally she played at some of the smaller towns of Russian Poland, such as Lodi and Lublau, where the mereannouncement of her coming was suüicient to crowd the houses. Indeed so great was the demand for seats that in the scramble for clioice places a little game of fisticuffs was by no means an un usual oceurrence.
