The Detroit Tribune recently stated that. Edward Duffy had writen to Chairman Holman, of the committee on public buildings, in whieh he said that the Democrats of tl is city were not in favor of having a public building here, and manyother similar statements. The report purports to be a dispatch f rom the Washington pondent of tbat paper. Mr. Du ff y states that the report is an accompli3hed juggling of lus letter. He wrote to Mr. Holman as a private citizen, opposing the bill, on account of liis property interests in the vicinity, but in his letter he mentionecl neithor of the political parties. There is little doubt but that a large mujority öt our citizens are in favor of the public building piovided for our city by Congresaman Gorman's bill and the Tribune report ismerely au attempt to bring ;i matter into politics which has no place there, and by gètting up ;i political strife kill the bil!. Both the parties should be above throwing tliis uestion into politics and work toer for tlje common interest and welfare of the city.
