The Grand Rápida Democrat yesterday printed the following in its Washington dispatcues: "Representative Gorman is greatly surprised at certain new developments in the Ann Arbor public building bill affairs. By diligent work and the cooperation of manyof liisinfluential colleagues. Mr. Gorman has succeeded in having the Ann Arbor bilí placed In an advantageous position at the head or Michigan measures of a like character. There is an excellent prospect, therefore, that it will be passed by the house when the first batch of new bilis is broughtin. Mr. Gorman isnowcredibly informed, however, that J. E. Beal, the ownerof the building in which the Ann Arbor postoffice is now located, is industriously engaged in Cireulating n petition addressed either to the house of represen tati ves or to the cnminictee on public buildings and groundsremonstrating against the passage of the Ann Arbor bill, on the ground that there is do neeessity for the erection of the building at'tliis time. Tliis opposition is unexpected. Said Mr. Gorman today: 'It is not of a clmractertogive me müch concern. ïheself interest whicu actuates tliis niovement is clear to atiy one and this petition will therefore fail to have any influence vrith the committee or with'the house.' ïhe incident serves to recall the stories current in previous Congresses as to the underStanding between the owner of the present postoftice building and Representative Gorman 's predecessor in the house, which was said to have retarded this moveinent to secure a public building for Ann Arbor."
