Referred to Street Committee. A petition signed by Wm. J. Just and five other residents and property holders on South Ashley street, of the City of Ann Arbor, asking that a sidewalk be ordered built on the west side of said street, also for the establishment of a grade. Referred to the Sidewalk Committee. A petition signed by E. B. Noriïs and four others, residents and property holders on Wilmot street, asking for an appropriation of $100 to grade said street to the established grade, lieferred to the Street Committee. A petition signed by F. liettick and six others, property holders on ington street, asking the Common Council to rescind the f ormer order and make an order for a ten f oot walk on said Washington street. Aid. Martin moved to lay the petition on the table, to be taken up later in the evening, which motion prevailed. A claim of Mary Kenny, of the city of Ann Arbor. setting forth that on the tenth day of June, 1892, she sustained a very severe in jury toherright limb by a defective grate in front of property number seven, Ann street, and that she is willing to accept by wav of compromise the sum of $1,000. On motion said claim was referred to Finance Committee and City Attorney. City Clerk reported a summons served on him in case of Elizabeth Wallpert vs. the City of Ann Arbor. On motion the City Attorney was ordered to defend said suit, which motion prevailed as follows: Yeas- Aid. Respectfully report that thry have had the various recommtudatioua under consideratiou aud wonld recommend, First, That permlsslon be granted to euoh rallway eompauy to crosa Buch atreeta wlth their pnvposed spur track, on coudition that said eompauy do forthwith baila all sidewalka heretofore ordcred by this Couucil to be by said company constmeted, and also on tiou that said company do plauk each of said street crossings f rom street liue to street Une. Secoud, Your committee do rccommcnd that the request of said Board of Public Works for au appropriation of the sum of $275,00 for the purpose of tiliug south side of Miller avenue fvom Maiu to Ashley streets aud south slde 'i Washington street bu the east side of Alleu's creek.be deuicd, for the reason that the construction of suitable stone glitters aloug the streets so pufposed to be tiléd will answer all the purooses oí such proposed tiling, aud that the cost of the construcción of street gutters has heretofore been paid by the adjoining property owners, aud your coinmittee see no reason for a departure from such practice. To. the Common Couucil : Your Water (Jommittee, to whom was referred the petition of Mrs. J. J. Walker audothers. praying for a fire hydrant ou the corner of Gott aud Summit streets, Respectfully report that we have had the matter uuder eonsideration and would rccommend that the prayerof the said petition be grauted, aud that the Aun Arbor NVaterCompany he ordered to extend its six-ineh water maius froni the intersection of Miller avenue and Gott street north on Gott Street to the corner of Gott aud Sammlt streeta and place n fire hydraut thereat. We further report on petition of Thomas Collier and o thers, praying for a tire hydrant ou the corner of Uth aud Waihingtou streets, Kespectfully report that we have giveu the matter curefvil consideratiou, and lind that all the property in that locality can be reaehed by our fire department from the hydrants novv lócated, therefore we recommend that the petition be denied. liespectfiilly submitted. To the Common Council : Your Water Committee to whom was referred the communication of the Anu Arbor Water Company, praying for the reconsideration by the Council of its order to the Water Company to reconatruct the manner of placing the hydranta on Hillstreet and to connect the same with its main ou Washtenaw avenue with a 3x inch water maiu in place oí two inReg?ie:etf ully report that they have duly considered the matter aud would recommend that the request of the Ann Arbor Water Company be deuíed. Martin moved that the report be accepted and adopted and placed on file, which niotion prevailed. RKPORTS OF SPECIAL COMMITTEES. Chairman Snow, of the special committee on abatement of mili race in the 3d ward, stated that to th'is date the citizen's committee appointed June 6th, 1892,have made no report. Aid. Prettyman moved that it is the sense of this Couneil that such committee, appointed June 6th, be asked to bring in a report at our next regular meeting. Which motion did not prevail. Aid. O'Mara moved that the citizens' committee be discharged from any further duty. Which motion prevailed. UNFINISHED BUSINESS. Aid. Kitson moved that the report of the Sidewalk Committee, which was laid upon the table at the last meeting, be now taken f rom the table. Which motion prevailed. By Aid. Martin moved that the width of sidewalk on Washington street be fixed at eleven feet. Which motion prevailed. Aid. Martin moved that the street eommittee's report be taUen from the table. Which motion prevailed. Aid. Martin moved that the report be accepted and adopted, excepting so niuch as referredto the spar track oi the T., A. A. & N. M. railroad. Which motiou prevailed. Aid. Martin moved that a recess be taken for five minutes to allow the street committee to make a report on the Felch street culvert. Which motion prevailed. Your Committee would recommend that an additional approprlatlon of the gam of $25 (twen tv -flve dollars) bemade, and that the Board of Pabilo Works be directed to make a sultable contract for the construction of satd street culvert witli Henry Koch & Bros., wiio are tlie lowest bidders therebre, wlth sufflcieni suretles, and tbatsuch streetculvert be constructed without delay. By Aid. Kitson. Resolved, That permlssiou Ije and Is hereby grunted Dr. V. H. Dorranee to remove three Bhade trees in front of liis property on the corner of Mouroe and Ingalls slreets.' Which resolution prevailed. By Aldérman Ferguson : Resolved, Aud it is hereby ordered tlnit the present contract relations between the citv of Ann Arbor and The Aun Arbor Water rompan}- be, and is bereby declared to be atan end : that hercafter and until new and some other contract relation shall be concluded by nd betweeu the said Ann Arbor Water Company for tlie rental of water hydrants and othir water ased by the City the' reasonable worth thereof will bepaid only, Rcxolvfri fnrther, tliat the matter ni' a new contract with said Ann Arbor Water Company 1 aud the same is hereby referred to the Water Committee, and the' said Water Committee Is nereby iustrncted to f ully investígate the whole QuestlOB of cost. supply mui dem and, as wellas re&soiiable prlce whicb ought to be paid, and report to this Couucil without delay. By Alrierman Martin : Resolved, That the appropriation of two hnudrod dollars heretofore made. for the purpoee of gi-ading Smnmit street westerly írom Main Street, he and the same is herehy ordered to be divided, applied, aud expended iu the gradlng of said Suinmit street and also Gott atreet, such expeuditure to be made by the Bonn! of Public Works, imder the dircction of the Street Comm:ssioner, as to the said Board shall seem most advisable. Which resolution prevailed. By Aid. Martin. Wbkkeas, The Toledo, Aun Arbor and North Michigan Rathvay Conipany luis asked permission to cross First and Williams streets in thiscity with a spur track to connect with their main or side trucks in or near First street, and, Whereas, tuis Councll has heretofore ordered said Railway Company to bulld aud construct certain plank sldewalksalong and adjacent to their lands aDd premlses in this city, and that said Company has hitherto without good reason therefore failed and neglected to comply with such orders so to construct such sidewalks, therefore. Resolved, That and penniasion is hereby granted to the said Railroad Company to construct their said purposed spur track on, over and across First street and Williams street on and along the line and at the grade flxed and purposed by the City Engineer on thls express condition. to-wlt: That said Railway Company do make and deliver to the City Clerk their bond in the penal sum of one thousand dollars, with Andrew J. Sawyer and Mr. Greenwood as surilies, condltioned to build and construct all such sidewalks and cross walks without delay, and that this permtssion shall not be operative until the said bond shall be duly delivered. Aid. Rehberg moved that the Council adjourn, which motion did not prevail. The resolution of Aid. Martin then carried by a yea and nay vote as follows : Yeas-Ald.
