Aun Arbor, one of the most beautiful cities in the country, will soon be recognized as such by those who see it only while passing througli on the Michigan Central. The time was when othing but eye-sores could be seen rom the track of that popular road for nirists, and the exclamation, "Is tliis Ann Arbor?" with the accent on the lis, was very freqvient. Then the oad built tbeir handsome stone depot nd remodeled the old acraggy, wooden epot for a freight house, painting it p, but still froni the tracks could be een some old, dilapidated-looking ïouses and waste land, whicli seemigly told a story of a non-prosperous ity. Kow all thls. is to be changed nd with the exception of a few lots wned by Mr. Honning and the old oap factory, when the world's fair isitors pass through Ann Arbor, a cene of beauty will greet their eyes. The Michigan Central has just coni)leted the purchase of all the land beween Fuller street and the railroad rack and also the property of the late Charles II. Kiehmond north of the ailroad track and between the track nd the river. The purchases were lade through John F. Lawrence, Esq., vho has had the matter in charge for ome months. The property includes [ie McGloyn property and the Giles roperty and the two acres of Mr, iichmond's, with one or two other ttle pieces. The railroad paid in the eighborhood of $7,000 for the proprty. M In the near future the railroad conemplates removing all the old buildngs on the property and grading dov n 11 the banks to the river, making a ark and flower garden. No more eautiful spot for a park could be hosen. Nature has done much for it nd when the banks are graded down o that the view of the winding Huron s not obstructed and the eye roves to t over beds of flowers and foliage lants, the traveller gets an idea that Ann Arbor is a beautiful city, and in nis he will not be mistaken. Engieer ILawkes proniises to surprise the itizens witli the beautiful landscape ardening. The company expects to get in its ouble tracks between Dexter and Ypilanti in time for the world's fair, hich will give them a doublé track rom Detroit to Chicago. The bridges nd culverts are already being widened.
