Wednesday evening's Chicago Herald contains the following dispatch which will be read with great interest here: Waukesha, Wis., Aug. 30. - The engagement of James L. Babcock, of Ann Arbor, Mich., and Miss Ella Stanley Butler, of this village, is announced. Mr. Babcock is the man who was made famous by the provisions of his uncle's will, which lef t him a fortune contingent upon his marrying vvithin five years of the testator's death. Miss Butler is a popular young lady and a fine singer. The wedding will take place in the latter part of September. Babcock has been visiting Waukesha annually fortwenty years. He was a mere boy when coming to Milwaukee from Chicago with his uncle, Luther James, and hearing of the discovery of the Bethesda spring they came here. After that they came every year. The uncle was an old man and Babcock gave him the greatest care. In the summer of 1889 Mr. James died here, aged 83 years. His will provided that his estáte, which amounted to several hundred thousand dollars, should be kept intact for five years and then if Babcock had married it was to go to him, otherwiseit should be divided among the heirs. The will caused Babcock to be much sought after and to receive numerous offers of marriage. He is a quiet, retiring man and has solved the problem for himself.
