From the way the Republican papers are shoutingoverLabor Com.missioner Peck's report it would seem that they had discovered a real mare's nest. But they do not mention the fact that this report is the work of manufacturers exclusively concentrated over the name of one man, not one laborer having been consulted as to whether his wages had been increased or not. If any one should ask Mr. Carnegie if wages were increased by Protection, to be sure, his answer would be "yes." But, ask his employés; they are the men who will teil you the real truth. We all know the cause of the Homestead lockout. Wages were reduced. The papers are full of accc1 " lockouts and strikes every day. Peck's Republican boomerang collapses immediately before the facts.
