Dr. Kirtland, of Pinckney, was here Monday. Mrs. VVm. Hooker was the guest of friends on Thurday. Charles Lawton is attending Nor-. malSchool at Ypsilanti. Miss Maggie Fleming has returned from her Ann Arbor visit. Mr. and Mrs. Coy have returned from their visit at Mason. -Miss Nellie Lavey was the guest' of Pinckney friends Sunday. James Gallagher spent Sunday with his brother at this place. Mrs. M. H. Carpenter and Mrs. G. Benton are on the sick list. Mrs. A. Barber spent last Saturday with her sister in Pinckney. Jacob Schultz will teach the winter term of school at North Lake. G. Smith and J. Bross made a cali on friends in this place, Sunday. Byron McCaulay is attending the soldiers' encampment at Washingon. Miss Tessie Sweetman is visiting her sister at Hamburg for a few lays. I Mr. and Mrs. Marsh are visiting his parents at Ortonville for a few ays. Miss Tessie Reid visited with her riend at Hamburg one day last week. Mrs. J. Bell was the guest of Chelsea relatives the first of the week. P. Lavey called on relatives at North Lake one day the first of the week. Rev. L. P. Jocelyn, of Ann Arbor, )reached in St. James' church last Sunday. Miss Maude Barber has been stayng with Cynthia Carpenter the past :ew days. Mr. and Mrs. G. Boyden and family ntertained friends from abroad the )ast week. Mrs. Hale and daughter Emily eturned last week from their visit n Detroit. Mrs. A. Chamberlain and sons Will and Charles visited Ann Arbor n Thursday. John McGuinness, of Pinckney, vas in this place on business, one lay last week. Miss Julia Reade, of Chubbs Corners, spent Sunday with her parents n this place. Mrs. H. Wilsey and children, of Thelsea, were among friends in this jlace, Tuesday. Dr. Sigler, of Pinckney, shook ïands with his many friends here ast Thursday. George Howard, of Howell, spent everal days of last week with his rothers here. Dr. W. Armstrong, of Ann Arbor, was the guest of A. Taylor and fam[y over Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. James Harris and )aby, of North Lake, spent Sunday with relatives here. Dr. F red Warren left last evening for New York City where he will practice medicine. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Carpenter and family spent Sunday with her parents in Webster. Miss Lillie Brown, of Putnam has been the guest of friends in this place for a few days. Mr. G. Lutzer and family have been entertaining friends from abroad the past week. -Mr. and Mrs. McMahon and daughter Alice were with friends at Owosso the past week. Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Mowers spent the last of the week with friends at Fowlerville. Mr. and Mrs. Orton Pratt, sr., called on friends in Ann Arbor one day the last of the week. Mrs. Wm. Carpenter and daughter spent the first of the week with her parents at Pettysville. Mrs. Wm. Ryan has just received $2,610 back pension through the efforts of our congressman. L. D. Alley now has one of the finest stores in the county, which is occupied by L. L. James. Miss Clara Clark, of Lincoln, Nebraska, is spending a few days with friends in this place. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Fisher, af ter a few days' visit with relatives in Ohio, have returned home. 5' Mr. and Mrs. T. Stanton returned from Lansing last week, where they had been visiting friends. John Pacey árrived home from Auburn, Indiana, last Friday, where he had been to attend the fair. Mrs. T. Reason and daughter, Miss Myrtella, of Pinckney, visited with old friends here, Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Harris and family, of South Putnam, spent Sunday with his sister in this place. John Speigelberg and sister, Miss Hattie, visited with relatives in Cleveland, Ohio, the last of the week. The farmers of this place have been quite busy the past week sowing their wheat and cutting their corn. # Mrs. George Howard, of Howell, was called here the first of the week to attend her mother, Mrs. T. Birkett, who is quite sick at this writing. Messrs. D. Quish, E. Croarkin, and R. Honey were in Ann Arbor Thursday and took in the big show. They report of having a good time. A second attempt was made to burglarize another saloon in the village of Dexter last Monday evening. The robber managed to escape without any luggage. The concert given at the Congregational church by a number of the young people of Dexter village, assisted by the Ladies' Quartette of Pinckney, was a swell affair and all who attended enjoyed themselves very much. Mr. L. Cole, of Ann Arbor, who has conducted the services in St. James church in Dexter village the past two years, preached his fare well sermón last Sunday, and left Monday morning for New York City, where he will continue his studies for the ministry.
