A number of prisoners were sentenced in the circuit court, Wednesday. They had plead guilty this week to the various charges brought against them. William II. Smith, tlie slick agent who under pretense of being a general insurance agent, got Jas. lt. Bach to indorse a draft for him, was given two years in state's prison at.Iackson. Silas T. Kane, guilty of the larceny of a satchel frorn a travelling man was sentenced to six months in the county jail. Silas Tolbert, a colored man, was sentenceel to a year and a half in Ionia for breaking in a freigbt car at Ypsi lanti and larceny from the car. Samuel JLaws, colored, who plead guilty to adultery witli a white woman named Jane (alian, was sentenced to two years in Jackson prison. George E. Buil, found guilty of atteinpting to kill one of kis sons, was sentenced to a year in the prison at Jackson. Joseph Scott, a colored chimney sweep, of Ypsilanti, was fined $50 for resisting Offlcer Ea,ton and Mayor Glover, and given three months in which to pay the fine. The criminal cases against George II. Greenville, Edward ïaylor, George V. Burkhardt, Charles Eiseninann, and Thomas Matth'ews have been continued.
