Charles W. Penny, who diedathis home on North University avenue, Tuesday morning, was born in Putnam county, New York, January 4th, 1812. He carne to Michigan in 1831, where he engaged in the clothing business in Detroit. Ten years later he becíime a prominent dry goods merchant in J;ckson, where he remained in the business íor íorty-five yeárs. In 1886 he retired and removed to this city. Ile was a qniet, unostentatious man, domestic in his tastes, a just man and fcrne. He was a member of the Episcopal church. He leaves a widow and two daughters. ïhe funeral services were held yesterday morning. Mrs. Thomas Birkett died at her home in Birkett, Dexter township, )ast Friday evening, aged 73 years. Her malden name was Wood. She was married to Mr. Birkett May 1, 1855, and in that year they came to this state f rom New York and located at Dover's Mills. She was a member of the Baptist church and a lady of culture and refinement. Mrs. Mahala Norria, who died Tuesday afternoon at Osceola, Livingston county, settled in Washtenaw county in 1825. She had reached the remarkably advancod age of 101 years and 8 months. She was born in New Jersey during Washingtoifs lirst administration. For the past nine years she had lived with her daughter in Osceola.
