Philip Schumacher, aftcr a long .struggle with an attack of peritonitis, is again able to be around. Arthur Sweet, of Jackson, who brokc his ankle while stepping off a car in that city a few days ago, is undergoing repairs here and propelling his anatomy around on a pair of crutches. He will probablj be compelled to spend the holidays here with his relatives. James Murnan, of the Cook house who has been in New York state for some time on a visit, is again at his post. John Gillen, of Saline, had business in the city, Tuesday. Mrs. B. St. James and her guest, Miss Boyney, of Detroit, went to Vpsilanti on Tuesday, presumably to take a survey of its Greek antiquities. Hon. Edward Duffy went to Lansing ori Tuesday to attend a meeting of the consolidated prison board. Sheriff-elect Brenner went to Adrián on official business, last Tuesday evening. Charles. H. Kline visited friends in Ypsilanti, last Tuesday. Mrs. J. A. Dell is enjoying a visit from her cousin, Jesse Mills, of Leslie. Chas. Schott made a test case of it between his skull and a stone pavement, Tuesday, by falling. Honors about even, and he is attending to business as usual. S. W. Curtiss has accepted the position of business manager of the U. of M. Daily, taking the place oí Mr. Whitehead, resigned. Rev. Fr. Goldrick, pastor of St. Patrick's church, Northfield, celebrated mass at St. Thomas' church, W'ednesday morning. Mrs. T. H. Wadhams is entertaining Mrs. Burk and daughter, of Kansas. Mrs. Asa Allen, of the fifth ward, is seriously ill. Michacl Staebler went to Grass Lake, on business, Wednesday. Commissioner Cavanaugh visited the Ypsilanti schools on Tuesday. Mme. Reyer and child, of France, attended by a maid-servant, are staving at the Cook House. Dr. Carrow went to Dundee on professional business, Tuesday morning. Mrs. Reberca Dunster is suffering from an attack of our Russian importation, the grip. Mrs. J. J. Goodyear is convalescing aftcr a severe attack of bronchitis. Miss Ida Garlinghouse has returned from her prolonged visit to friends in Canandaigua, N. Y. Miss Anna Reiley and Wm. McGuire went to Grand Rapid's, Monday, to attend the funeral of their cousin, Austin Reilly. Frank Cahill had a pleasant visit in Ypsilanti, Tuesday. Prof. and Mrs. Trueblood gave a party, Wednesday evening, at which a number of their pupils and several invited guests were present. Rev. Fr. Kelly was in Detroit, Tuesday. Wm. H. Mclntyre went to Detroit on jDusiness, Tuesday. J. E. Beal transacted business in l'ort Huron this week. L. J. Liesemer, editor and proprietor of the Washtenaw Post, is confined to his house by illncss. W. E. Bolles, of the Daily staff, was in Detroit, on business, Tuesday. W. II. Dellenbackhas been elected assistant superintendent of the .Methodist Sunday school. DeWitt C. Fall has returned f rom his trip to Boston and other eastern points. Prof. M. E. Cooley transacted business in Detroit, Monday. Mrs. B. B. Thompson is entertaining Mrs. Alva Baxter, of Ohio. Hon. Chas. R. Whitman went to Lansing on Monday, probably on railroad business. A young poet recently achieved this wonderful line: "All at once a monotonous monotone burst upon his ear," which reminds us of another famous line equally expressive: "The sweet toned darkness filled the air with scent."
